My Best friend Art K0QL passed away from several health issues and struggles that he met head on with a yest for life. He was 84 yrs old. Arthur spent 20 yrs in the Navy as Master Chief Electrician and was an avid short wave listener throughout his life. After retiring from the Navy, Art started his own business and was well know for repairing electric motors and related items including rewinding armatures and field coils. Much of this work was by hand. I met Arthur in 2002 at a local hamfest where he achieved his first ham ticket. He had tried several times prior but always struggled with the code. He achieved his Extra Class License shortly after and was an active ham the rest of his life. He loved to operate portable from what he called Deer Camp stringing wires throughout the trees to form his "Loop" antenna. Arthur was a generous man and would often donate parts, gear, and books especially to new hams to foster a hobby he truly loved. I spent the last 18 yrs knowing this incredible man. Peace be with you Art.
