Elmer VE3 LJX of Brantford, Ontario was a good friend to all those who contacted him on 40 meters HF or 2 meters FM. Elmer lost his sght and was injured in the 2nd world war. That did not stop him from an active life. In his latter years he could be found on the ham bands conducting local nets or providing phone patches. I met him (Peter Smale VE1BHH) on the air when I was in Brantford recovering from back surgery in 1980. We were good friends until he died in 1994. Recently I was granted permission by Industry Canada to hold his call VE3LJX which will be used when I visit family in Ontario. I reside in Wolfville, NS where I am active on HF CW.
