I first met Joe back in the 70's during the time when 2M Fm was beginning to take off, He lived in a city about 35 mi north of me. Joe told me one day he was a telegraph operator for station WLC located on the great lakes here. About 5 years later I ended up getting a Job at WLC and got to know Joe better. Joe was always quick to help somebody out with a problem, And was a very educated man. He was very active in amateur radio especially on 75M phone in the days before it became a wasteland. Thru encouragement from Joe I went on to further my education and eventually moved away. When I returned back to the area years ago I heard that Joe had passed away from cancer. Ham radio lost a fine radioman with Joe's passing but if I listen hard enough I can still here Joe's laughter from joking around or pulling pranks on the new or temp ops at the station.
