Friends Detail

Friend : Don Pasley (K4KXL)

Don was a real gentleman operator who loved 160 meters. He maintained regular skeds with friends around the country.

He could be found every Thursday evening on the Greater Cincinnati Amateur Radio Association's 1.936mhz Net, often as the net control station.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Betty, and four grown children.

61 years was not nearly enough time to enjoy his company for any of us.

Very 73 Don, and rest in peace.

Don & I met at Ohio State in 1959 and both being hams struck off a
lasting friendship. We even worked for the same company in the same
division at one time. Don was a wonderful friend and one that would work
me for hours on end when I was mobile between Colorado and Ohio.
Once we had a 40M continous QSO from Joplin, MO all the way to the
Ohio Indiana border when I was mobile on my way back to Cincinnati.

Don will be missed on the ham bands with his 170 ft inverted "L" antenna
from Kenwood, Ohio using his Kenwood rig. Don's wife put his Kenwood
handheld in his casket so if we hear a strange call on 2 meters listen up.

Don was responsible for my becoming interested in amateur radio. We studied for the novice test together using an old Schwinn bike horn with a key and a battery to learn morse code. It was an exciting day when we received our novice licenses in the mail. His was KN8CRJ and mine KN8CPL. Over the years we lost touch with each other as I was in Germany with the army for awhile in the 80's. I miss him and his many gifts.
