Easy modification. Open holes over mic element, stuff in some cotton, and a piece of rubber tubing over the mic element will suppress the acoustic micro-environment and pinole port over the mic.

Stock microphone assembly gives very poor reports. Simple modification: Enlarge/add holes over the pickup element. Stuff a thick felt disc, or some cotton, into the "pocket" for the mic element. Slip a piece of rubber auto vacuum hose over the mic element (same height). Add felt or cotton wad between circuit board and speaker. I got "LOUD and CLEAR" after the modification. Essentially, there is an acoustic micro-environment inside the housing, which must be suppressed. Simple Fix.
