More Punch !  Time owned: more than 12 months
Stock hand mic for FT817ND does not seem to drive power output on ssb very well. Installed Astatic Road Devil RD104E, can see drives FT817ND better.
Mic set to about 25% and mic gain on FT817ND at 100%. Reports have been good with punch. 73 K1WJ

Excellent for Communication  Time owned: more than 12 months
Better frequency response than the D104M6B with all the punch. This mic never fails to get through even the worst conditions. Since the JM3+ is no longer made, the RD104E may be the most potent handheld one can get, rivaled only by the M6B sibling. I'm not saying it has the best tonal quality, but it's reasonable and that is a secondary issue in mobile communications anyway. Being heard and understood is what it's all about, and the RD104E does that almost without peer in my opinion. Just remember to keep a spare battery handy.
