Excellent Portable  Time owned: more than 12 months
The Roberts RC-828 Portable Receiver was the first radio I bought as an SWL. I purchased it new for 225 Euros from a dealer here in Ireland. It has often been described as a high end version of the Sangean 818 except with the additional facility of a cassette recorder and is built with much better components throughout. It is also aesthetically better looking with it's grey metallic colour and is is more pleasing to the eye.
Performance wise it's very sensitive on SW and SSB but on MW and FM leaves alot to be desired.I use it in conjunction with a 6m long indoor portable reel-wire antenna(from Sangean) and reception on the HF bands has always been superb. I've worked quite a bit of DX with this little radio and have even recorded some rare ones on its handy built in cassette recorder. My advice is if you are looking for an excellent starter portable receiver for SWL then the Roberts RC-828 PLL Synthesised World Band Receiver is the one for you.For sure,It will not disappoint.
