A Great Read -- Save A Lot of Cash In The Long Run!  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
K4ZA's book is a great read! He carefully explains lots of key, important information about tower erection, and maintenance. Before you even consider building an antenna system (it ain't just a tower) for sure read this book. This great read is a must before you spend any of your hard earned money on antennas, coax, towers, etc.

Like an earlier reviewer stated a "must" read . If you are even thinking about putting up a tower you will learn all there is to know about towers. Don is one of the best tower experts in the industry and has written a comprehensive 'tower' tutorial for ham operators. Highly recommended.

Outstanding!  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I picked Don's book out of the mail after work and had it read cover-to-cover by bedtime. (XYL was out of town.) What a deal for $35!

Don spent a career in video production before getting into the tower business full-time and it shows. He knows the importance of telling the story to impart a trade. He also includes candid stories from tower owners and workers explaining techniques and nearly-averted disasters from their own perspective. Not only is it informative, the book entertains as well.

Antenna Towers for Radio Amateurs pretty much covers everything you need to know about planning, procuring, constructing, and maintaining your tower and antenna system—everything from how to evaluate the ubiquitous used tower sections to which tools and safety equipment to buy. After reading it, you should be in a good position to understand how much of the tower-building process you are able to do yourself and how much to rely on local experts and professionals. It is an excellent book and deserves a spot on the shelf of every ham who owns or dreams of owning a tower.

Valuable Reference  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
When I heard that Don was going to write a book about towers, I quickly placed an order. I've finally had a chance to give the book a good looking over, and I'm very satisfied with the purchase. It's nice to have an accurate reference in hand that gives the reader either concrete information or provides you with a clue as to where to find it. Personally I can't think of any areas that were missed in this excellent book. Anyone who's considering the erection of a tower, or already has one, can benefit in one way or another. Putting up a tower is a serious project and investment, so you may as well do it right. This book provides a good set of guidelines for doing exactly that.
