Great little amplifier  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
It sports 5 hefty 6lf6/6lx6 tubes which are 40 watt plate dissapation close to 811a that are 45 watt, with a self contained power suply. 120 or 240 volts ac. It uses the ac mains and a diode multiplyer to obtain the 850 volts needed for the plate supply, using 1400 ufd. computer grade HV. caps and 10 watt wire wound resistors, Soo it uses a small transformer for the filament, bias and 60cfm fan. In standby everything runs abt. 10% cooler and has inrush protection. 11 functions are metered, B+,plate current, screen current, grid curent and all five cathodes, which are individualy set and easy side panel access so matched tubes are uneccesary. Also forward and reflected output power. It includes a ALC adjustment also. It will do up to 1600 watts pep SSB input. and 1000 watts input CW. I run the amp at an easy 500 watts out with a 45 watt drive all day. and at 1kw SSB pep when condition warrent with 100 watts drive. It is very well engineered and construction is very "neat". I've been buying 6lx6 tubes NOS at about $15.00ea. on ebay when i find them at that price(not unusual), 6lf6 cost more. I've been very happy at what I payed, $200.00 plus $50.00 for two power suply caps. I think it does well against a Ameritron 811H if you can find one. It has alot of circuit protection built in, like a two amp fuse in the cathode circuit. It has a 66 watt 70 ohm passive input circuit. Most modern radios w/auto tuners will have no problem driving this little jewel on 160-10 meters including mars and warc bands. I believe with a couple of spare set of tubes I have will give me many years of service. Unlike the Dentron GLA1000 this amp needs no mods to make it better. No current draw in standby or recieve. Easy to tune and easy to use. Keep the amp at 500 watts pep and tubes should last a long time. That's abt. 100 watt per tube. That first 500 watts does it every time. but that 1K watt reserve is available. As you can see I'm very happy finding this amplifier, they are a rare find. It measures 12.5"W,6.5"H,11"D and is abt. 18 lbs. Find one!!
