FT-1000MP-Great Radio! Time Owned: unknown months.
I've owned my MP since 1995 and it is by far the best rig that I have ever owned. I also owned a FT-1000D which was fantastic, but I like the features, flexibility and receiver performance of the MP even more.

I never had a problem in 4.5 years, but then the receiver went out and the display went out. I shipped it back to Yaesu and they fixed the problem, updated the rig and had it back to me in 3 weeks and it is back in the shack working great. Repair price was reasonable and turnaround time was great.

I love my MP and would easily recommend it to any ham. Great Radio!

Good radio, very poor repair service from Yaesu. Time Owned: unknown months.
Have had the 100MP for several years. After a few months of using the radio, I noticed that the audio gain control was binding and instead of getting a smooth change of audio, the audio level "jumped" in small increments. I returned the radio to Yaesu under warranty. They claimed to have fixed the problem, BUT when I got it back the shuttle jog didn't work. I returned it to Yaesu and they plugged in a connector behind the front panel which they had failed to do. The audio gain control was still the same. I returned it again and this time the control is not binding. The reason it is not binding is because they must have removed the front panel bushing. The audio gain control now "floats" as if its only held in place by the pc board mounting or whatever. At 50 bucks a crack, I won't send it back to Yaesu again. I've lost faith in their service department. It's my last Yaesu.

FT1000MP EDSP Audio Time Owned: unknown months.
Want your MP to have that "HI-FI" quality sound?
Firstly get the MD100 Mike..then in the menu settings set the following...EDSP to On and preset 3 (This seems to have the best overall characteristics)
TX DSP range needs to be 100hz-3000hz
TX USB and LSB carrier to -150
Procesor carrier USB & LSB to -050
All filters on the base of the MD100 set to OFF or Through.
Enable the EDSP on the front of the Radio
I have a fairly "Deep" voice..but these settings work very well and have enough "Middle" and "Top" to cut through
Your audio will sound a "Dream"

1000MP. MP must stand for MasterPiece Time Owned: unknown months.
I've had the MP now for about a year and I'm proud to say that it's been a joy to use. The receiver quality audio on this (especially AM listening) is wonderful. The ability to tailor not only receive audio but transmit audio is amazing. For casual or DX use you really cannot beat this radio. The antenna tuner is also extremely versatile and FAST! Just touch the TUNE button and you're there!
CW operation with the ability to target the other station right on frequency is great as well.
One problem that has been noted is that once and a while the frequency display, when intially turned on, may not come up right away. It may delay for 30 seconds or so. Very minor problem and in no way affects the operation of the radio.
I highly recommend this jewel of a radio. It is, in all accounts, mostly perfect.

Best radio I ever had with minor faults Time Owned: unknown months.
I have the MP for about one year now and am very pleased with the performance. Things I don't like is the volume control and mike gain right next to each other. This is not very smart because every once in a while you want to turn up the volume and grab the mic gain instead. The other thing that I don't like is the automatic antenna tuner that is either on or off. when it is on, it is controlled by the memory. I would like to be able to switch the memory off through the menu. I read the other reviews and agree with all of them. I also work mostly CW and don't like the thumping of the QSK. The Keyer is working good except for an extra dit once in a while, which doesn't happen when you use an external keyer.
The transmit audio is excellent with the MD100 and you have the tx EDSP to taylor your audio frequency response to Pleasant or piercing DX modulation. No need to invest in a special microphone. With the built in power supply you have a stable voltage source, if it goes bad, it can be disconnected and an external 12V supply can be used. The VFO is very stable and I have not found a need to install an optional TCXO. One more thing to mention is that Yaesu has a well written manual that gives understandable instructions for all functions. All I can say is " try it you like it ".... but don't expext a plug and play radio. I am still learning after one year.

great Time Owned: unknown months.
I have been off the air for a long time.Just getting back to it a few months ago. I Quired a few other hams on 2 meters about a good rig. Most of these stations have been running all the time . most of them have the yaesu ft 1000 mt and they are verey happy with them.So i wemt for it and as an old tube(flemming valve0 operator I am very pleased. There are a mess of bells and whistles that I won't use now but the rig is great

Best rig I have ever used or owned Time Owned: unknown months.
Simply put, The best transmit audio combined with the most sensitive receiver combined with effective dsp and the ability to cut qrm in ways other tranceivers can't even come close makes this the best tranceiver I have ever used. (period) Oh, by the way, did I mention exceptional dynamic range and the best AM broadcast receive I have ever heard? Try it you'll like it. 73 - WA2AR

FT-1000MP Time Owned: unknown months.
In 8 years as ham radio Op I probably has had more radios than anyone, about 25 of them among Kenwoods,Icoms and Yaesus,I just got an MP 6 months ago, this is the REAL machine only beat probably by an IC-775DSP and an Omni VI,the receiver has more than needed sensitivity,in fact I reduced IF gain little bit with the hidden "9" menus,DSP works great in TX and RX,if you learn how to set menus on Tx you will sound like a Broadcast station even on SSB using the MD-100MX or any other good quality mic,Double receiver is the BEST dx work tool I have ever seen,if you are looking to buy a heck of a radio and you can afford it,this MUST be your choise. You will enjoy it.

Great radio with a few weak spots Time Owned: unknown months.
I have been using the 'MP for about a year now after a string (4) of Kenwood 850's and a 950 SDX. In most ways this radio is superior to the Kenwoods, but doesn't have the RX sensistivity or audio quality ( both TX and RX) and QSK that the Kenwoods did. The menu and operating conveniences are unbeatable, and dual RX is the most effective DX'ing tool ever put in any radio. I'm not much of an SSB op, but I have trouble adjusting the VOX gain and anti-trip for good balance with my Heil boomset, either too sensitive or dropping words. I liked the monitor function in my Kenwoods since it gave an accurate representation of the transmitted audio, but the Yaesu monitor is far inferior. The biggest disappointment for me was the CW QSK, lots of popping and thumping. I can't use the monitor with QSK as it worsens the thumping, but the CW sidetone is adequate. At least the there's an accessable volume control for it, unlike the Kenwood. I have the INRAD IF mod as well as their CW filters. If you install the mod, don't forget to adjust the IF gain via the menu. You may find different IF gain setting preferences for diffent bands. The INRAD xtal filters are superior to the Collins mechanical ones available from Yaesu. The DSP is pretty lame, but useful in some situations, especially the 250 Hz CW setting. The noise reduction feature is generally ineffective. I've used the radio in several contests, and it stands up pretty well the crowded band condx, but don't try to use the noise blanker (not DSP) with strong adjacent sigs. Lot's of IMD. Although I concentrated on what (for me) was some weak areas, overall I think this is a very good radio that with just a little work good be a great one. For me, the perfect radio would be the great audio, DSP, and QSK of a TS 870 and the dual RX, menu system, and xtal filtering of the 'MP.

Just another rig but with a built in light show an Time Owned: unknown months.
Receive capability was typical for today's receivers. The IF seemed noisey and copying cw through QRN was difficult. The DSP lacks versatility with it's fixed positions. An outboard DSP such as the MFJ is much more effective. Like most imports, it's impossible for the average ham to service. CW keying is quite good and QSK fairly smooth although not very fast. The internal keyer worked great. Sidetone quality was poor but cw-monitor feature was helpful for monitoring one's keying and easier on the ears than the sidetone. Filters are overpriced and the Collins mechanical filter was no more effective than the Yaesu. Headphone volume was rather weak.
