OK...this one's a keeper! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The FT-1000MP has got to be the best rig for the dollar. I can't believe you can pick one up for $1000 bucks. I paid a little more for mine (eBay) but it was loaded with filters, includeing an INRAD roofing filter, and upgrades.
I have three gripes with this rig and they're small potato's:
1. Some of the knobs along the bottom row are kinda small.
2. The noise blankers.....what do they do?? i finally found a buzz that they eliminated.
3. Packet can only be activated in LSB or FM. There's a way around it but Yaesu should have thought this through a little better.
Otherwise this is one helluva transceiver. Dual receivers (true daul receive..two seperate circuits), tons of filters, DSP (audio) and enough menu options to satisfy anyone.
There's no perfect radio but for $1000 to $1500 bucks...this one's close. This rig will stay in my shack until it melts!

An absoulutely wonderful radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have owned my FT-1000MP for a couple of months now and have to say it is the most wonderful radio I have ever used, in contradiction to the last review I find the EDSP very effective, much better than my last radio an Icom 718, I know there is a price difference but the 718 is a newer radio. The automatic antenna tuner is very forgiving of high SWR and together with a Heil headset the audio on transmitt and receive is fantastic, my favorite aspect of this radio is the dual receive capability and the fact you can have one receiver in the left headphone and the other in the right, in contest mode this is fantastic, my radio has all the filters and the regular mods, I am now going to send it of to Byron Campbell WA4GEG so I know it is abslolutely perfect, until I can get the 9000 this will be my keeper radio

Great but... Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
A lot of praise has already been heaped on this radio, and I agree with all of it, with one exception: I think the DSP on this radio is pretty worthless. I have had several radios with DSP: 746Pro, Kenwood TS-480HX, FT-920, FT-1000MP. The Yaesu's fall far short of those other 2 radios. The good news is that it (the 1000MP) doesn't need it. You can find nice one with filters for $1200-$1500 - it's a good buy - a solid, great looking radio that oozes quality and plugs into the wall - a radio that will hold its value for a long time to come.

XLNT Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Having tried a number of rigs since my first MP I recently put a mint condition MP back in service. Compared to the many newer rigs I've used the receiver on the 1000 MP is simply outstanding. Very, very quiet and even very weak signals are easy to copy even under poor band conditions. I like the fact that the controls needed are easily available on the front panel and not hidden two layers deep in a menu system.

Given the price one can expect to pay even loaded with filters the 1000 MP compares very favorably with many newer rigs costing much more. From casual rag chewing to DX work and contesting on a crowded band the MP receiver is hard to beat. It gets excellent audio reports as well on SSB using a Heil HM-10 mic and the CW is smooth as silk.

Best I've owned Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have owned lots of Kenwoods (TS-430, 440, 850, 2000) as well as some Icoms (706MK2G, 756Pro3) and even a Flex-5000, but I recently came across a very clean FT-1000MP and decided to give it a try. For my operating (mostly CW and digital with some SSB thrown in here and there) the FT-1000MP is just about perfect. It's just a joy to use, and with the recommended mods and some INRAD filters it's a stellar performer. It's a big radio (note to manufacturers - that's a GOOD thing) with well-placed controls. The dual receive and QSK are excellent. I honestly wish I had picked up a 1000MP years ago.

Great Build Quality Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Purchased with INRAD Roofing filter. What a difference. Controls are easy to use, very responsive. You will need to read the manual as operating split has a learning curve. Leave it to yaesu to make great stuff. I will probably hold on to it for a few years until all the bugs are out of the FT-2000 (there are many). Hopefully there will be an FT-2000MP.

No real reason to change Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I keep looking at new rigs - the K3, FT2000, Omni VII, etc., but this is like my 1995 Camry. I just cannot justify changing. With the INRAD roofing filter and sharp INRAD SSB filters in the first IF, this rig just delivers. Yes, some of the numbers are not as good as the current rigs, and I am sure the Ten Tecs and K3 are quieter, but in terms of where I can get the biggest performance boost (a beam antenna?), this rig continues to perform and will stay put for some time.

It shares the desk with a TS-520s which is also a classic of its era.

A True Pleasure Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I purchased my FT-1000MP new one month after it came out in 95/96. This radio is simply rock solid, loaded with good usable features and is a complete pleasure to use EVERYTIME I turn it on. If you spend the time to shape the transmit and receive features in the menu (by all means take the 15 minutes to do so), you will find some absolutely stunning performance only a few menu selections away. I LOVE the receiver in this radio and can fight QRM and QRN quite nicely with all the shaping this radio provides. Also, if you enjoy shaping your transmit audio, this radio will provide you with stunning on board flexability and results.

After 13 years, my FT-1000MP still looks, feels and acts like new. I have owned dozens of rigs but there is absolutely no reason for me to buy anything new...even 13 years later.

5 year's later - Still the best!! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
In 2003 I bought my FT-1000MP used from Burghardt Amateur Center - South Dakota.
I'm 'load' the radio with all filters (and roofing) + we made the one W8JI mod. - noise blanker.

Two month ago I have idea to sell the FT1kMP and then upgrade to an FT-2000..
Hmm..but then have nice opportunity to visit OM and work Ctest with new FT2k.
The OC have FT1kMP and couple month old FT2k in his shack..so during the Ctest we have choice to swiching between two radio's.
So,after this test I decide the FT1kMP stay
in my shack + now I looking around (ebay..etc) for the second hand FT1kMP (like to try SO2R)

NO HARD FEELINGS (for all FT2k fan)..I like the design but the radio not convince me!
