Review Summary For : M2 6M5XHP
Reviews: 7MSRP: $344
Description:
The 6M5XHP is the latest computer optimized version of our popular 6M5X. The 6M5XHP has been re-designed to use a hair-pin type feed. We just made a good thing better, maintaining a low wind load and great performance for its size. The 6M5XHP will compliment the rest of your antenna system and not overload your tower. The 6M5Xhp is perfect for the ham trying 6 meters for the first time or the seasoned vet who may stack them for a lower angle of radiation or even some EME use.

Nice antenna Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Antenna came nicely boxed from DX Engineering. I was shocked to see the assembly instructions were just pictorial drawings. Studying them closely and it is easy to assemble. The 3rd boom section had the D2 hole drilled in the wrong place! I called M2 and they quickly sent a replacement free of charge. There was also a boom assembly screw missing. They sent that as well but it was still the wrong size. I found SS replacements at Amazon. I assembled the antenna according to the drawings and I didn't have to touch it after that. It has a 1:1 match at 50.00MHz and is 1.9 at 50.500.A full 500KHz wide, very nice! It is extremely light weight and I'm very pleased with the on air results. I recommend this antenna with it's hairpin design. I would give it a 5 star if not for the incorrect hole and the missing screw.

Poor instructions Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The instructions leave a lot to scratch your head on,
I have had many M2 vhf uhf 1296 beams over the years and was disappointed they changed the driven element setup. I like N connectors on 50 MHz and up .

I was down sizing from 2 towers to 1 tower at new home so instead of putting up our M2 6M7 we ordered a smaller beam with less wind load so we couple be on hf bands and 144 222 432 1296 and 50 MHz with shorter booms. I should have just put up the M2 6M7 and been done with it . Still we have faith this beam will do a nice job on smaller foot print .

Good but doesn't like rain Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Step 1 was to identify the boom pieces and mark them. Assembled the boom and element mounts inside the garage on a pair of saw horses. Then took it out into the yard to add the elements. At 60 feet, I've worked 46 states, Europe, and South America on 6M FT8 and MSK144 so it performs well. The only complaint is that with rain or ice the SWR goes up to 2:1 (probably because of the small diameter elements). That of course causes the transmitter to begin limiting power output to protect itself.

I'd Do It Again.. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I had this antenna up for close to 3 years and it performed without any exception. In late spring 2015 I decided to stack a pair of them. The lower one is at 24 feet and the upper one is at 44 feet. They work great.

Great Antenna Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I recently built and installed this antenna. Assembly was straightforward, all parts were provided, only issue was one pair of miss-drilled holes on the boom - easily re-drilled. Performance has been what you would expect for 5 elements, with low SWR across the band. I have worked 20 states and Canada in the first few weeks of use.

You can see the install on my QRZ page.

Loving 6 meters Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Arrived via UPS Monday, but I had to leave on a road trip for work. ARGH. Put it together Friday morning first thing after I returned, raised it to 40 feet. Compared to the 2 element moxon in the attic, there is no comparison. I knew 5 elements would be better, but not THIS good! Simply amazing! The antenna is build like a tank, very solid. The instructions are very abbreviated, but if you have ever assembled anything before and you understand how yagis work, then it is just a matter of patience. I have the 2M9 from M2 also. Not surprised that this is a great antenna. You get what you pay for. Looking forward to DXCC and VUCC on 6, via CW, SSB, and digital modes.

Nice antenna - could use a few minor design changes Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Bought this antenna after researching many brands and after reading reviews here on e-ham. Since I am new to 6 meters, this antenna seemed to be what I was looking for. Received it from Giga-Parts and found the package and contents packed well with all parts present. I found the instruction sheets to be somewhat vague but if you look closely it is very easy to assemble the antenna. It took me about 2-1/2 hours to get it assembled and ready to mount on the tower. It is a very lightweight antenna and easily handled.

I noted a couple of things that would be nice upgrades for future versions. Currently there are no end caps for either the boom ends or element ends. The inclusion of some CAPLUGS would lessen the chance of water getting into the elements and boom. Also the design of the element to boom brackets could be changed to be a little more stout.

If I were building an antenna such as this, I would go with a 2" boom and at least 1/2" elements instead of the 3/8" as delivered.

The new 1:1 included balun and hairpin feed is a nice change from the old coax balun and gamma match on previous versions.

Mine was assembled as per the instructions (hard to make a mistake) and performed as expected. Low SWR in the low end of the band as advertised.

Now just waiting for conditions to improve to give it a good workout. Will check back after some on-air contacts are made.
