Great antenna, have owners numerous over a 25 year oeriod Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I've owned numerous Wilson 1000 and 5000 antennas over the decades. I always end uo giving them away to new 10 meter mobile ops as the sunspots come up.....

Of course it has a DC short out of the box. It's a shunt fed antenna design. It's supposed to read shorted.

Thr magnet styles aren't my favorite, but they work. I've run the through the roof, magnet style and the trucker series and they perform well enough for me to almost always be heard. I run between 800 watts (magnet mount) and legal limit (through roof and trucker style) and probably have 300,000 miles over the decades with the antenna design.

Cold Joint Solder Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Ive had many antennas over the years, Reading your reviews I bought my first and last Wilson.

I purchased the 5000 Mag mount version for a road trip last year during the flooding and mess on 95S. When I got the package home I found the antenna's plastic cover was cracked upon opening the package, I promptly headed back to the radio shop to find that all of his stock except one had cracks in the covers. I should have called it a day right there.

The antenna performed reasonably well on ten meters and I could easily monitor 40 meters.

When we got home I put her in the corner of the shack where she has been sitting for the better part of a year.

I pulled her out to use her for a trip last week and the same plastic cover was loose, further examination found the solder joints to the coil were apparently cold joint soldered and had broken free.

There is no weather protection for the coil or the base connections that you would find in the K40 line and many others, Rust had started to take it's toll on the UHF connections.

I have made many request to Wilson to no avail. The product is clearly in the warranty period and short of filling a suit I guess I'm out my money. Thinking about buying a Wilson product? Check out the many unfortunate owners like me on U-Tube and others.

Of course if you are looking for a expensive piece of junk give Wilson a try :P

wow! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
i have not cut this antenna down but did cut the coax down to hafe. I am useing it wit an Alanco DX-sr8 and a LDG AL 100 auto tunner.
So far with this antenna i have tuned 10,12,15,&17 meters and have talked on every one, all over the world from japan to Russia And places in between.
No this is not the right antenna for workibg 15 and 17 meters and the tuner is doing all the work but my RF is getting out there.

Perfect Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Hi all, the Wilson 5000 is simply perfect from 24->30MHz without tuning. Many DX contact with it, all continents, more as 120 dxcc with S9. Great antenna, not like the Wilson 2meter.

Great for 10 meters!! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Ive had many wilson antennas over the years using the 1000 for CB so i purchased a through the roof mount version of the 5000 when i recently got my ticket. It is the best way to run these antennas,(Properly installed) provides an exellent ground for this antenna. Ive been using this antenna on 10 meters & make international & local (within the states)contacts with great reports. Easy to tune as well.(Caution!) It should be installed by a professional, drilling holes in a vehicles roof improperly leaks & or high SWR will ultimately result! 73s KK4EQE
