Wattmeter DOA Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Ordered MFJ-817C directly from MFJ on their site. It took several weeks for unit to arrive. (Ordered several different things and they were all shipped over 3 week period). Meter arrived completely dead. It shows no power through the meter or returning. Tried on both VHF and UHF, all power settings and on two different radios and antennas. It is as if the box is empty. Paint and finish of cabinet is also very bad. Edges are rough and un painted in some areas. Still waiting on response for how to return for working replacement.

Should have known better ... Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Purchased this unit earlier this month (October 2011) and just now got around to putting it in-line. First thing that told me there was a problem was the fact that neither standard, correctly soldered-on, PL-259 would fit into the SO-239 sockets on the back of the watt meter without considerable force. I ended up not seating them all of the way for fear of breaking something. There was still enough of a connection to obtain an indication as the plug was only out about 2mm. Connected it to my power supply (correct polarity of course), turned it on (the light lit up), and keyed my IC-271A on FM into a dummy load through the watt meter. Nothing, nada ... no reading of any kind. tried several configurations of the switches and even tried the 100W amplifier. Still nothing.

Well, as i can not find my invoice from Universal (don't know how i could have mis-laid it) it looks like i have a chance to open it up and dig around inside and see what's not connected.

I'll never buy another MFJ product again.

Cheers and good luck to you.
