Excellent kit...excellent support Time Owned: unknown months.
The fact that this transceiver is only 3 3/8" x 3 ¾" x 1 ½" in size kept me returning to Wilderness Radio’s home page and Dave Ingram’s book, QRP Now. All the parts, the enclosure and the instructions were excellent. It took approximately a week of evenings to build the radio and one evening to build Wilderness Radio’s KC1 keyer/frequency counter. The KC1 is also very compact and allows the radio to become a very nice package.

The kit went together nicely. As the instructions advise, a fine tip soldering iron should be used for the construction process. After finishing the construction, I had trouble aligning the radio. When notified, support from Wilderness Radio was through. After following their suggestions and steps, I decided to ship the unit back for their evaluation and alignment. About a week later, the radio returned. The problem was a defective 18 MHz crystal. A new crystal was installed and the check I had enclosed for the evaluation and alignment was returned. Furthermore, there was a letter to explain the solution.

The transceiver’s output was approximately 2 watts. The audio in my headset was quite satisfactory. With the KC1 keyer/frequency counter, you can use both a hand or a paddle key; plus, the frequency counter adds a "plus" to the total transceiver package.

My first QSO was in Minnesota, and moments later, the second was in Texas. As I am located on the coast of Virginia, the first two contacts were an excellent start for this rigs life.

SST 40M RIG Time Owned: unknown months.
I built the 40m version and it is very easy to build. It took about 5 hours to build
and everything about the kit is easy. It's also nice that everything comes with
the kit and you do'nt have to go buying extras to finish it. Even if you know
little about building it is still an easy kit to build.
