Reasonably Good Hand Mic Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I recently acquired an example of this microphone on an auction and placed it into use on my Tentec Orion transceiver. It replaced a lackluster Tentec 703 hand mic which employs a rather low output dynamic element. The low-impedance 700C uses a powered electret element that offers a rather flat, high audio output but does require power from the rig or use of a 9-volt transister battery housed inside the mic case. I found the audio quality to be characteristic of the electret type element, that is to say a flat response, but it responded well to EQ adjustments within the radio. The result yielded numerous on-air comments of reasonably good audio quality. The push-to-talk lever does take some effort to depress and hold and since the lever connects power to the small internal pre-amp and element, there is a characteristic pop in the make and break when using the push-to-talk button. Evidently, Tentec no longer offers any microphones employing high output electret elements and has migrated toward dynamic element offerings for use on desk or in hand.
