High quality well built Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This is a heavy receiver weighing in at 25/lbs. Hardly what I consider portable. The receiver is well built inside and out. Electrically this is a complex receiver. This set is VERY sensitive. The downside is it receives plenty of images if you are near any commercial BC sites. I've used this set in the open areas of northern MI and it was perfect with its sensitivity. In the city, the middle and especially the upper portions of the SW bands suffer moderate to severe poor image rejection. The LW band is plenty sensitive and I've received late night European flame thrower BC stations with little effort, but again it receives images from local broadcasters in the Detroit area. This set has an edge when compared to any of my Zenith T.O. sets. But the reliable old Zenith work horses have superior image rejection. I keep coming back to that as it can be annoying in the big city. The BCB and lower MW/SW bands do not suffer this that I've ever noticed. When used to listen into HAM SSB transmissions, the set is very stable on 20/m and lower. Sound quality is excellent from this set. Very broad audio response especially on FM. Best sounding consumer portable I own bar none! If you're looking for a communication receiver DX machine, this isn't it as any consumer multiband isn't in my opinion. Buy a proper communication/HAM receiver for that. But for casual BCB/MW/SW listening, it more than fits the bill. Plus it's a nice nostalgic well built piece of Japanese history.
