Slick design and useful! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I owned one for 5 years and picked up a second one last year at a hamfest. I bought a second FT-530 for it on EBAY to use with it. This is an amazing little crossband amplifier and I am at a loss as to why it is no longer on the market. You slide your battery less HT onto it and the amplifier powers the HT, and puts out 40 Watts. It works with a crossband repeater capable HT such as the ADI AT-600 or Yaesu FT-530 to form an integrated crossband repeater.
I have used the two together at a single location to make and In-Band repeater, and used them 35 miles apart to make a "radio bridge" between 2 points covering 60 miles, HT to HT over normal terrain. used together, these little amps become powerful range extenders, especially when used with beam antennas and can be set-up on buildings, in the field, or on a tower to extend the range of HT's and base stations. Mine work flawlessly and even pass digital signals like packet, MT-63, and MFFK for EMCOMM work.
We have used them with Boy Scouts on camping trips to extend the range of the boys HT's, and we can cover 20 square miles if these are set up on hilltops and the antennas are pulled up into 50'trees. The antennd seems broadbanded and works with MURS and GMRS frequencies also.
This unit was made in the late 1990's and is hard to find, Its time someone made another just like it!

No Service Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Amplifier worked well for some time, then developed a problem. Single RF device, no service available. If yours works, keep it. Out of luck if it fails
The "customer service rep" no help at all, they do not service the unit ... nor know of anyone or place that does.
