Review Summary For : LDG AT-1000 Pro II
Reviews: 66MSRP: 539.00
Description:
Building on the success of the AT-1000Pro, LDG Electronics has refined and
expanded its flagship 1KW tuner. The new AT-1000ProII keeps many of the
same features of the previous model, but simplifies the operation. With the
two position antenna switch there are 2,000 memories that store tuning
parameters for almost instantaneous memory recall whenever you transmit on
or near a frequency you’ve used before. Just key and it tunes! The AT-
1000ProII will operate at any power level between 5 and 1,000 watts peak RF
input.

The AT-1000ProII has a large, easy to read bargraph with two selectable scale
ranges (100 and 1,000 watts) as well as SWR meter. The AT-1000ProII will
interface with many popular transceivers, enabling their TUNE button to
control the AT-1000ProII’s operation. Dedicated control buttons allow you to
fine-tune capacitance and inductance on those rare occasions when the AT-
1000ProII can’t find a perfect match by itself.

The AT-1000ProII will tune from 1.8 to 54.0 MHz continuously, and will
match an amazing range of antennas, from Yagis and dipoles to inverted-Vs
and slopers; virtually any coax-fed antenna from 6 to 1000 ohms impedance
(16 – 150 ohms on 6 meters). Tuning time is usually under 10 seconds. If
you’re transmitting near a frequency with stored tuning parameters, it will set
those parameters in under 0.2 seconds. Longwires or antennas fed with
ladder line require an external balun.

Great Item to have Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
My wife got me this for Christmas and I knew that I would shortly be ordering the matching watt meter to go along with it. I do not regret asking for this particular item or for buying the additional meter. If you are getting near my age (60 yrs old) and eye sight has began to head south the peak reading watt meter will be a great addition to anyone's shack. The meter can only be used with the newest version of the turner since the previous tuner has no electronics to control it. When compared to my Bird 42 it is off by a few watts but it seems to be linear in its error so it was just a matter of a slight adjustment to get it with in 2 to 3 watts. Some may say it is pricey but for what it does I don't think it is at all.

Works perfectly Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought my 1000ProII along with the M-1000 meter. An excellent combination. I use it with a Kenwood TS-570S and Ameritron 811X for CW use. I use a multiband antenna (Windom) and the LDG 1000PROII fits the bill perfectly.
It took about 2 minutes to tune it up in three different portions each of 9 CW bands which then got held in its memory.
From then on, it took only a split second when changing bands for it to "remember" it's settings.
The M-1000 meter is really great and the backlighting is superb.
Always remember to bypass your linear before hitting the tune button!
It comes with an excellent manual (as does the M-1000 meter)
I have used other LDG products for QRP and they also worked as advertised.

Excellent Product and Customer Service! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I had a problem recently with my LDG tuner. It was returned to LDG for warranty repair and I had it back in less than 7 business days - including shipping both ways.

Customer service is what it should be and couldn't be any better. LDG was proactive and knows exactly how to treat their cusotmers.

Thanks LDG!!!

Fine business without the meter Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
So far so good. I just received a new Pro II from LDG after I upgraded from the older model with analog meter.

The new unit is working great and does a fine job on my 110 foot wire and vertical delta loop as well.

LDG stands behinds their products and any issues I have had have been quickly resolved. You can buy an add on analog meter if you want but I see no point in it if you have a decent meter in line already. The Power Master from Array Solutions does the job well for me in that respect.

I also own the AT 200 Pro and it has worked like a champ for over 3 years.

LDG is a fine business ham supplier. Now if only they offered a QRO remote AT........

Compact Auto Tuner Tunes Fast Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This unit is my first stand alone auto tuner, having used manual antenna matching networks for the past several decades. The AT-1000 Pro II replaced my Palstar AT-1km on my Tentec Orion/Hercules II station in an attempt to speed up the tuning of my 80/40 and 30-10 meter coax-fed dipoles. I was fortunate enough to find a new refurbished unit on-line at a bargin price so I jumped for it.
The AT-1000 Pro II is compact, appears well built, and is very easy to install. There is a series of video tutorials on Utube to guide one in the installation and use of the matching unit. Although the instructions call for a 12 vdc power supply capable of 1 amp, I used a suitable wall wart supply that produces 750 ma and found it worked fine.
After running through my favorite frequencies on all bands to allow the tuner to find and memorize the appropriate settings (a rather noisey but necessary process), I found the Pro II returned to the memorized settings in a split second, speeding up the QSY process for me. In every case, the Pro II found an acceptable match. I did find one favorite 75 meter frequency where it produced a 1.8:1 reading but I forced a full retuning action on that frequency and was satisfied with a resultant 1.5:1 reading. Readings on most bands were around 1.1:1.
I have not yet tried using my 500-watt Hercules II amplifier but I suspect it will work smoothly with this tuner. This technology is a far cry from the manual roller inductor tuner of the 20th Century and should provide a useful upgrade to the station.

Works As Advertised! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
There have been many complaints listed about more than 1 manufacturers (LDG and MFJ) high end flagship tuner not working very well with amplifiers (tuner's going back into tuning mode once under high output power). Reading all of these reviews made me a little nervous to go this route (Versus the 3 times more expensive Palstar Auto). I am very pleased to report that I have found no such issues with LDG's newest rev of this tuner!

I am running a Ten Tec Orion II with an Elecraft KPA-500 Solid State Amp. My antennas are a collection of verticals and wires (not enough space for a big tower on my Los Angeles lot).

The tuner handles my 500 Watts without even thinking twice. So far it has never gone back into auto tuning mode while I am transmitting. The manual does suggest that if you have such issues to place the tuner in semi auto mode (which requires you to manually re-engage by pressing a button on the tuner to further automatically refine or adjust the tuning).

Perhaps higher power or older amps will present those problems I read about for this tuner too but at 500 Watts I'm seeing nothing but flawless operation. I am able to leave the tuner in full auto mode and upon tuning once on a frequency (which can take a few seconds and a lot of clattering on internal relays) this tuner is both fast, accurate and seems to be reliable.

From my humble perspective, LDG's refinements in its latest offering seems to have addressed many issues! I should note that I have not bought the optional meter so I am unable to comment on its functions. Given the digital meters on the tuner and my amp it just seems a little redundant and unnecessary (but I'm sure cool looking for the shack).

I will be looking forward to see how other folks experience plays out. For me, "two thumbs up" on the new LDG AT-1000 Pro II.
