I have the original National Panasonic RJX-661 in daily use Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This is an incredible and rare monoband 6M rig, with a tunable solid state final, superb RF front end, beautiful tank-like construction - heavy - and a solid stable internal power supply. SSB audio quality is very good, AM audio is a little narrow. It is a very capable CW rig too. I love mine, which I got from Japan, hence the name National Panasonic RJX-661. Panasonic was so busy with so many fine quality radios, tape players and consumer electronics that their ham radio gear wasn't visible and never marketed directly to the US. It was every bit as good as Kenwood of that era - perhaps more advanced.

The KLM 661 was a substantially built and is a collector's item Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The KLM 661 as it is known Stateside is in fact a base station 50MHz all mode built in Japan by National Panasonic and marketed there previously as the RJX 661. It is attractively styled with built in power supply and nice orange analogue display. The transmit audio is pleasant as is recieved audio. One attractive function is the record output which will record your part of the QSO as well as the DX side. The one I have is still in daily operation is is one of the nicest 6M radios I have owned.

A smaller cousin is the RJX 601 which was AM/FM portable also produced by National Panasonic. They also did produce an HF transceiver which I believe was the 1011, these radios were also marketed under the Hygain brand at one stage.

Of radios of similar class and era (Late 70's) I would consider by rank would be Yaesu FT625RD, Kenwood TS-600.
