SUPERB WORKMANSHIP Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I asked for a referral for a US Towers HDX-555 motorized tower installation. Tony, K6ELQ, had installed the same tower and recommended Steve Shobe. I contacted him and after explaining my needs (excavation, rebar cage, and concrete) he provided me with a priced detailed plan. I had previously obtained the necessary building permit so we were "good-to-go."

After a delay on my part, the hole was dug, and rebar cage was mounted. I called for a preliminary inspection by the City of Santa Clarita and it went smoothly. I procured a local concrete supplier, along with a separate pumper truck, and Steve returned to supervise. He actually assisted to insure a good pour (7.5 cubic yards of concrete). After waiting for the required minimum 28-day cure (actual elapsed time was 32 days, LOL) designated by the manufacturer, Steve returned and we mounted the tower and mast. I had scheduled a final inspection, by the City of Santa Clarita for two days later, and it went very smooth without a single hitch.

I have complete confidence in my particular installation and while not inexpensive, Steve's workmanship is very, very good. I highly recommend and will utilize his services for all future tower work.

Stephen has been to my QTH out of state several times to perform antenna work. He is experienced, knowledgeable, dependable and has a great sense of humor.

In his line of work, no two jobs are ever the same. I would say I'm probably a difficult customer - putting some challenging, if not unreasonable tasks on the board. Stephen simply says one thing, "Let's do it!"

Stephen has installed a 4L SteppIR and a TH-11DX for me. Let's not forget the day we switched those antennas out on my postage stamp lot.

I would absolutely recommend Stephen!

ONE WORD : "AWESOME" (please read this one!) Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Words cannot express enough my full and complete satisfaction with Pioneer Antenna and Tower.

From the beginning of the process while discussing the scope of the project to the final steps of clean-up, Steve Shobe is "THE MAN" when it comes to installs.

He arrived as scheduled, fully prepared with his knowledge, a garage full of tools and equipment, and demonstrated a full understanding of how I had planned to have the masts installed.

Coming from a commercial background, and now most recently taking on amateur installs as well, Steve knew how to get the job done ... since being a fellow HAM as well.

(My job was relatively simple and except for the core drilling he could have probably completed the entire job with his eyes closed. )

It's always great to find a personable installer-technician, with a great demeanor and that knows is craft AT REASONABLE RATES!

Therefore, it is with pleasure to fully endorse and recommend Steve Shobe and Pioneer for all your antenna and tower needs.

Thanks again Steve....and also to HRO Burbank for the referral.

Outstanding and Professional Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Steven Shobe, W6SKS, has done tower work for me on three separate occasions spanning 4 years.
Job 1 was to re-cable my US Tower TX455. The work included all new stainless cables, bolts, and nuts. He also inspected the lifting pulleys and greasing of the thrust bearing.
Job 2 Replacement of the power winch assembly (transmission seal leaking).
Job 3 Remove and replace my rotor.
Each time Steven showed up on time and was ready to work. He is a nice guy. His price is fair and work is excellent. Highly recommend him for tower work.

Earlier 5-star review posted by W6NEK on 2015-03-27

I was referred to Stephen by HRO Anaheim. I needed my 12 year old 55 ft. US Tower refurbished. In addition, the gearbox on my MD75 winch developed a oil leak. I phoned Stephen on a Friday afternoon and left a message. He returned my call within the hour. To give me an estimate he needed to see the condition of the tower/installation. To my surprise he made himself available the next morning (Saturday) at 9:00 AM. After his review and cost estimate he scheduled a visit to fully service the tower. This included replacing all tower bolts and tower lifting cables along with servicing the pulleys. The MD75 winch was beyond field repair and he contacted US Tower for a replacement. Once the replacement was received Stephen squeezed me into his schedule and completed the winch installation. To say I am fully satisfied is an under statement. Stephen always showed up right on time and worked with skill and speed. I got the impression that Stephen treated my tower work as if it was his own. To the point, Pioneer Antenna & Towers exceeded my expectations. Thanks for a great job Stephen!

Top Notch Professional Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Had Stephen "DE-Tower" my SK father in-law's QTH and "RE-Tower" my QTH recently.

This was my first tower project and I am so glad I found Stephen. His obvious experience and expertise was apparent as he was able to remove the 4 antennas and 30ft. tower from a second story patio with minimal help from me and my bad back. The next day he was able to mount the tower, rotor, and 3 new Yagi's along with a VHF/UHF vertical. Again with minimal help from me. He did such a good job, I had him back in a couple weeks to add another 25ft. roof mounted mast with UHF Yagi, Discone, and G5RV. He whipped this job out in about a half day. It helped that I had assembled all the antennas before hand but if I hadn't I'm sure he would've done that as well. But having the antennas assembled definitely saved me additional labor costs.

I have to say, I am very impressed with Stephen's craftsmanship, attention to detail, and his integrity. He is very easy to work with and his rates are reasonable, but not cheap.

I won't hesitate to call him again for the next project! Maybe I should wait for a while though... Don't want to REALLY upset the neighbors, HiHi!

Steve is a professional. He showed up on time and was ready to work. 1st visit was the survey. 2nd visit was to "do the job". I did the preliminary work on the ground. He had my Hex Beam up and running in 3 hours. Great Job, and all works including the rotor and controller. If you want it done right, the 1st time ... on time, Call Pioneer Antenna and Steve Stobe. He gets it done! I highly Recommend! 949 235-9202

The go-to guy for SoCal Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Steve recently did a major tower/antenna installation at my QTH. He comes out and does a site review of the job which is refunded in part if you accept his offer and sets up a schedule.

First he removed a TX-455 tower in preparation for a new HDX-555 tower. On that day he also delivered a rebar cage that was professionally built off-site to US Tower's specifications. Then I went about having the old pad jackhammered out and the hole enlarged by a local contractor. When the hole was done Steve arranged for the 7.5 yard concrete pour. He arrived early to drop in the rebar cage and everything went off like clockwork. After a month wait for the concrete to cure he arranged for a local crane company to remove the old tower and install the new tower. That day he hauled off the old tower on his tower trailer to its new home at K6FW's QTH.

I then assembled the OptiBeam OB4030 on the roof. When I was done he again arranged for the crane and installed that antenna onto the mast. I pulled out the remaining mast and installed the rotator (my choice). After I finished assembling the OB9-5 Steve again came out with the crane and installed that antenna.

Steve was very punctual. He arrived every time at the agreed to time. He tells you what it will cost and how he bills and sticks to his promise. Not cheap but fair and worth every penny for the peace of mind of having it done the right way the first time. You pay as you go and to him, not the sub-contractors.

I will definitely go to Steve for any future upgrades.

Excellent professional work Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
My bucket list project was to replace my aging rotor and cables on my 40ft triasto(US tower). It originally tilted down for work but over the years fences, gates ect are now in the way. cranked down it was 15 feet above a flat roof. I found Steve SHobe thru the Web and called for his advice. He came out and surveyed what was needed and set a date for updates. He arrived for the work fully equipped with what was required. Replaced rotor and all cables, LMR400 ect. New yardarm with pulleys and cable guides on tower. Ran cabled thru pvc conduit to protect from UV damage. Installed new pl259 connectors on cables entering radio room. I am thrilled with install and will hang up my climbing belt and call Steve from now on at 949-235-9202.

If you want your tower and antenna to be put up the BEST hire Steve......he is the BEST. 90' self supporting tower motorized with a DB36 SteppiR on SPECIAL TILTING fixture. My antenna is vertical when not in use so as NOT to be over neighbor's yard and pool.
