Superb Time Owned: more than 12 months.
These sound WAY better than the radio-brand speakers I have heard. They look nice, too. Good addition to my shack.

Good speaker Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have owned a number of external speakers and frankly some were just not very good sounding. This speaker sounds very pleasant used with my K3S. It reproduces both phone and CW very well. The only odd thing is that a cable with 3.5mm mono plugs on each end is included but there is no input for the cable on the speaker. No problem because like most hams I have more than a few spare parts. I may well get another for my backup rig.

Well-qualified Communications speaker Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This speaker is driven adequately by a Kenwood TS-590SG (1.5-watt Audio output). It does enhance clarity within the rig's uncomplimentary Receiver audio. Works well as a General Coverage speaker.

Well-constructed and appropriately sized. I find it's a valuable full-term addition.

Good Overall Time Owned: more than 12 months.
A much better speaker than what comes with most "matching" units for HF transceivers. Good quality and good sound.

Great speaker Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I use my SP30B for vhf as I have the bigger Palstar speakers for HF. SP30B, great quality, great sound, looks great sitting on the desk. Highly recommend.

Two of the three connections are missing Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The Palstar website says this speaker has three types of connections: Compression terminals, RCA jack, and 3.5mm jack. That is wrong. The one I received today only has compression terminals. It also did not ship with the 6 ft. speaker wire.

I called Palstar and was told, "We haven't sold units with the three connections in over a year. I'll let Pete know that he needs to update the website. Sorry."

The speaker sounds good and it looks great on my desk. I'm just disappointed that Palstar is misrepresenting a product that they are selling and does not seem to care about it.

A Great Speaker! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Excellent clarity, great tone with outstanding audio for both ssb and am broadcast listening. Have had quite a few external speakers but this is hands down the best of the lot.

Perfect for MY ears! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
This is just an update with my great experience with the Palstar speaker. Bear with me....
You can disregard the 'grumpy' reviews below, some guys would bitch about getting hung with a new rope!

I purchased the SP-30B (as mentioned) for a great price, with free shipping. I've been using it (switched) with my Kenwood TS-890, and a Kenwood KES-5, mobile speaker.
These 2 speakers could NOT be any more different from each other.
The KES-5 has LOTS of volume and treble, which make it perfect for a mobile environment (like the Motorola cop speakers).
The Palstar, has a much more muted output, favoring lots of bass response. I switch back and forth a lot.

Got some extra $ so I finally (!!) broke down and bought the Kenwood SP-890 (for $220). I had high hopes, which were quickly dashed! I gave it a generous '3' here as stock. The SP-890 sounded BAD, speaker rattled at higher volumes, etc. No contest.
Next, I purchased the Phonema 'kit' made for the 890 speaker. About $60 + shipping from DXE.
I was surprised how heavy, and large the Phonema box was.
OK, I open the SP-890, and as expected, nothing but a 3" speaker in an a big, empty metal box.
Installing the Phonema kit was easy, as the HEAVY DUTY acoustic parts (6) fit like a Swiss watch.

Bottom line? The 'upgraded' (now, $300 Kenwood) was now 'just' about equal to the Palstar which cost 1/4 of what I have in the 'pretty' SP-890.

Get the SP-30B and don't look back.

BTW, I have almost every OEM matching speaker for my large radio collection, and (to my ears) they all need help!
I have heard excellent things about Sounds Sweet, but when I ordered one, they were moving, so I can't comment.
Pretty hard to beat a Sony Surround Sound Center Speaker (8 ohms) from the local Thrift store for $2!!!!

Have fun!

Hi. I've posted MANY speaker reviews on eHam, as it's kind of a 'sub-hobby' of mine. Thanks to several large thrift stores in the area, I have amassed a huge speaker collection. Usually, the 'lone' speakers from a system are $2.
It's hard to beat the sound out of a Sony Surround Sound center speaker, but the Palstar is one of the best yet.
When I test a new speaker, I use a homebrew selector switch which allows you to listen to the same QSO quickly switching between speakers.
I have a new TS-890. It's an awesome radio and I use 2 different speakers. First is a Kenwood KES-5. This is a wonderful speaker (check the reviews), but it is a bit 'harsh'. One 'nit' I found with the 890 is although out is excellent, it's a bit low in volume. The Palstar is nice and mellow, so rather than run the 890 with the volume at 90%, I installed a small mobile audio amp. PERFECT combination!!

I have always been severely disappointed with OEM speakers. WAY overpriced, and I always replace the stock speakers, add baffles, etc.
No need to do this with the SP30B.
Bought it on-line at a great discount. And, free shipping. win-win

Excellent Product Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I wear hearing aids and the source has to be clear and crisp which this speaker provides. It was designed to augment the human voice frequency range. I can now enjoy hours of listening without fatigue. It has multiple inputs allowing for flexible and easy connectivity to any radio out there. Like any quality speaker it does need about 5 to 10 hours of operation to break in. Due to the rigidness of new speakers, they will not be as dynamic until they have had a chance to move and become more flexible. I simply tuned in an AM broadcast station and left the radio on over night. Do this before really using it, you will be pleased.

DOA Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I ordered one from HRO. It was DOA. Returned it for a refund.
