Review Summary For : National NC-77X
Reviews: 1MSRP: 70.00
Description:
Five tube "All American Five" general coverage shortwave receiver. 455 KHz IF, .54 MHz to 30 MHz coverage in four bands. This receiver has a power transformer that isolates it from line voltage making it much safer than competing receivers of similar design. Sometimes described as an AC/DC set it is not, with the transformer the NC-77X operates on AC power only. Tube lineup includes; 12BE6, 12BA6, 12VA6, 50C5, and the 35W4 rectifier. The receiver includes a BFO, standby switch, and dial indicator lamp. Other features include a built in speaker and an antenna terminal strip. The receiver came in two versions; a cosmic blue metal case, and a wood grain case. This receiver is quite rare and does a better job than most competing AA5 receivers. Circa 1963-1967.

Best receiver it its class Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I'm giving this receiver a 5 rating "in its class" of basic, no frills, AA5 simple receivers. The styling is beautiful with a professional looking appearance and is exceptionally well constructed. This receiver has a power transformer that sets it apart from others in its class of competing receivers. Don't expect high end performance from a receiver of such basic design and it shouldn't be compared or rated against them. This receiver it is at the top of its class of similar, basic, entry level receivers such as the NC-60, NC-66, the Hallicrafters S120, S38 and the others sometimes described as "killers" due to their lack of line voltage isolation.
