The Pro Micro Single Side is a high-performance single-sided headset. The mic end of the headset is outfitted with the HC-6 element. Designed for commercial broadcast applications, the -3dB points are fixed at 100 Hz and 12 kHz with sensitivity of -57 dB at 600 ohms output impedance (centered at 1 kHz.) Excellent Headset Audio! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
The HC-6 mic element in this headset yields the finest, smoothest audio I've heard in a headset! The earphone also provides very pleasant audio for long-term informal listening such as nets, rag-chews, etc. The single earpiece is much lighter and more comfortable than the big double-muff (which I also own, and use for more intense things like contests, noisy environments, etc.).

I prefer a headset 1) to keep both hands free, and 2) to keep the mic at a fixed distance from my mouth while moving my head around. This second reason frees you from planting yourself in front of a mic...you can move your head to check meters, surf the Internet, etc.

Also, I don't think the mic element can be changed. I know there are those who prefer to change mic elements to "narrowband" the audio for DX, etc. However, most modern transceivers have built-in transmit equalizers for this purpose. With an older rig, many external mic EQs are available. In either case, it's best to start with a trusty flat-response mic like this and use some sort of EQ to tailor the response.

Two criticisms:
1) The head band, while comfortable, does not instill confidence. The pad at the end of the headband has a loose feel to it and has, in fact, fallen off a few times. I've resorted to keeping it in place with a glob of clear silicone sealant.
2) To the best of my knowledge, the headset is fixed for use on the left ear, and cannot be reversed for use on the right ear.

The performance of this headset is so fine that I won't ding the 5 rating because of these issues.
