good performer			Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have had this antenna for over 5 years. Vern's St. Louis Antenna is worthwhile to have for QRP work. In fact I have used it at QRO (100w)also. No detrimental effects found. I bought the optional loading coil, which has minor workmanship issue. The shorting contact used is a piece of copper pipe with contact spring soldered onto it, and a brass thumbscrew to lock in postion on the brass rod. The thumbscrew stripped out the threads in the copper pipe, and I had to solder a nut to the pipe to give some purchase for the thumbscrew. This part should have been thicker piece of brass for better durability. The coil itself is top shelf, and makes the antenna a center loaded 20ft vertical that can tune 80 - 10 meters without problem. I use a small tuner after the loading coil is set, to touch up the tuning. This antenna is great for outings, Field Day, and hiking. I used it for Field Day with my IC-718 at 50 watts, worked stations in all US sections. If you can find a used one, or a new Sunny Day 20 ft pole for making your own, it is a viable antenna.
