CHICOM Junk - nothing but hash! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Purchased this unit from Fry's electronics last summer at a reasonable price of $149 - intended to use it to power an LCD monitor for portable operations. I thought the price was too good to be true for a true sine wave inverter - too bad I didn't follow my gut instinct and leave it on the shelf. Alhough the unit does produce AC power at reasonable efficiency, it also produces so much noise on all bands from 80M to 70cm that it is totally USELESS FOR AMATEUR RADIO APPLICATIONS! Some reviewers on Amazon have also reported problems with quality control (some units work well, others fail almost immediately) as well as need to replace the fast-blow fuse in the cigarette lighter cord with a slow-blow fuse. Save yourself pain and aggrevation and buy a quality Trace/Xantrex/Schneider or Morningstar unit.
