Wow! What a difference! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I'm one of those who hates the microphone that comes with the Icom IC-705. The Y-cable set up just seems horribly inelegant. Yes, the stock mic has nice, wide-band audio and it does sound good. But the extra cable flopping around on the desk? Nah.

So I replaced that with a single cable mic made from a cheap Chinese speaker/mic and a 2.5 mm TRRS cable & plug off eBay. It worked ok but I just sounded muffled. So I replaced the mic element with one of W2ENY's "hifi" elements.

Man, did that make a difference.

Now the cheapo mic sounds just as good as the stock mic. Nice and crisp, lots of highs -- the part of the signal that supposedly the best part of a good SSB signal -- and just enough bass end to know that I'm not a chipmunk or parakeet.

I'm thinking of replacing the element in my converted D104 body -- which now holds a cheap RadioShack element, if memory serves -- with one of W2ENY's elements.

Definitely worth the cash and the trouble of getting out the soldering iron. Definitely. Five stars.

Great for modern rigs. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Replaced the "tinny" sounding crystal element with the W2ENY HiFi MIC Element kit and could not be happier!

Superb Heil Replacement Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Had an old (probably 20 years) Heil dynamic mic element in my Heil boomset that finally gave up (the headset had been dropped a few times)

Fast shipping to a PayPal payment. Instructions clear.
Only minutes of prep and light soldering to get the old element OUT and new element IN. Plugged into computer sound card for preliminary tests. Sounds fantastic---even on D-Star. Have not tested on RF but expectation is everything will be fine.
