Great low profile antenna for scanning or even ham! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
The Maldol MH-255 is identical to the Maldol MH-209 but tuned differently.
I ordered both and marked them each with a designator of "H" on the 209 and "C" for the 255
This review is for the MH-255 which eHam didn't have a review for,so because this antenna performs very well for it's size! I have mixed them up and used the MH-255 for ham operations on the 2/440 mhz. bands with good results, even though this antenna is tuned for public safety/ commercial use. This antenna performs extremely well for GMRS and MURS, which is why I bought it.
Portable to portable using the legal limit of 2 watts out, my best range so far is about 1 3/4 miles with no obstructions with some noise in the signal but still readable. GMRS simplex operation to another portable using 5 watts on both gave us a a solid 2.5miles with no obstructions and little noise with no pl used.
