An essential piece for SWL'ing. Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Its amazing what proper impedance matching does just for SWL'ing. I realize there's a belief that antenna tuners merely raise noise levels as they peak the signal, and thereby no benefit, but that's not really true -- especially not with the FRT-7700. What sets this gem apart from, say, the MFJ-956, is that the FRT-7700 has inputs for both high and low impedance wires, as well as outputs of different impedances. That's crucial for correct matching. So when set up right the FRT-7700 makes a huge difference, like a 'preamp effect' -- even though its totally passive. The FRT-7700 can be used to great effect on any HF rig. I use mine on the Lowe HF-150 (it sits nicely on top of that), the Ten-Tec 1254 (ditto) as well as with my FRG-7700.

I recommened this especially to those relying on short wire antennas to cover all of the spectrum. The low price is absolutely worth it, without a doubt. I say its an essential piece to have on hand.
