Review Summary For : OptiBeam OB804030 high performance low band tribander 80-40-30m
Reviews: 2MSRP: 7,300
Description:
The OB804030 is a special low band triband Yagi covering 80, 40 and 30m with a single coaxial feed line.
The core of the antenna is the OB2-80s, a 2el 80m monobander, shortened by high Q coils and in addition by a special computer designed end loading, on a 10m = 33 feet long boom. Included is the OptiBeam 4 step multi switch, a relay controlled system which allows to cover the most important parts of the 80m band.
Interlaced are an OB2-40, a 2el high Q coil shortened 40m monobander and an OB2-30, a 2el high Q coil shortened 30m monobander.
All three interlaced monobanders are commonly fed by a single coaxial feed line, on the basis of the OptiBeam directly coupled driver feed system.
A very special and unique triband Yagi for the low frequencies.

Simply the best! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I'm a proud OB804030 owner for couple of months now. Comes in 4 boxes, very well packed, very well marked, very well engineered mechanically and electrically, Couple of days was needed to assemble it, not hard at all, just a lot of work, it's simply big antenna and all job cannot be done within one hour. Once on the tower, everybody is impressed, it’s a monster and real performer... :-)

First impression:
- On 80m band receives almost about the same as my big Waller flag and that’s very good. WF should be better on the receive, but actually no big difference btw antennas and that’s impressive! WF is of course quieter.
- on 30m and 40m behaves the same like full size 2el Yagi, no compromise there.
- all resonances on all 3 bands exactly where they should be.
- Mechanically all excellent and looks very impressive on the tower.

After couple of months on the air I can confirm this antenna is a great performer, investment worth every euro!!!

Works much much much better on 80m compared to my 120deg long vertical antenna with 40+ radials. this means 1 - 2S units better reports received from JA and VK compared to big vertical.

On the receive more or less equal like big Waller flag, depends on the band conditions, signal path and this is astonished!

Congratulations to Thomas who developed this very unique and great low band monster beam.

Best Low Band Beam Ever Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I have been an amateur radio operator since 1974. I have owned several different antenna systems including Hi-Gain, Mosley, Butternut, Force 12 and M squared. The Optibeam OB804030 is by far the most superior low band yagi both electrically and mechanically I've ever owned. It was not difficult to build and it is not overly large in size or weight. It is a 6 element yagi using 2 elements for 10 MHZ, 2 elements for 7 MHZ, and 2 elements for 3.5 MHZ.
It plays fantastic, and I'm hearing signals clearly that were once just static. Thank You Tom DF2BO for producing such a great product. I'd recommend it to anyone.
