Fantastic Mobile Rig! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I have used this radio in my Mercury Tracer for a little less than a year now. As far as the noise blanker is concerned, lets face it, with all the computer equipment in modern vehicles, is any noise blanker really that effective? I have been using this rig with an LDG AT11 tuner and an Outbacker Stealth antenna, and have received no less than five-nines by people I have talked to on this radio. It is great for the mobile because of its ease of operation (an advantage to few bells and whistles). The receiver is very sensitive, and there is plenty of audio output to power an external speaker in a noisy vehicle.
As far as the noise floor is concerned on 6 meters...the antenna and the rig have to be WELL GROUNDED to get rid of alternator noise and spark plug noise. I experienced this problem as well, and with some good grounding, the noise is at a minimum. I highly recommend this rig over both the FT100 and the 706.

Worth to buy Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Pros - CHEAP, Pre-installed filter, low operating temperature, sensitivity.
Cons - Not much bell & wristles, detachable panel has over 15 wires to connect (unlike 8 only for some ICOM rig).

I have my Alinco dx-70t (10w on 50mhz) since 1997.
I use it for base station. Dont have another radio. It has lived two brakes ups. One from lightning strike and one defect in the rig. It was easily repaired bye my father(lz1aq). I have worked on every big contest since buying it and making at least 1200qso's. It has never failed me.
Yes the NB is poor but i dont use it for mobile.
The reciver is great. About the transmiting ssb quality-- its very nice, never had a bad report. The 500hz NR filter is false. But who cares. Its so cheap.
If u are new in the hobbie and dont know from where to start, ALINCO dx-70 is great choise. Its a normal radio that will serve u great. The ONLY BAD thing is that's so small!!

73's Chav

P.S. I still use it and going to change it only for FT-1000MP(but no funds):-)

Excellent Radio Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I am very impressed with the DX70TH, with the noted exception of the sorry noise blanker. I have not encountered the problem with the multi-function control, I just use the up\down buttons on the mic. I sold off my TS930Sat and put the Alinco in the shack along with the LDG AT-11MP tuner, for casual operating it works much better. I have nothing but praise for the little radio.

very good, but Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
i bought a s/h very cheap dx 701 (commercial/export version)for mobile use and its'an impressive radio. very good reciever and good strong tx audio. i'd have given it 5/5, but for mobile use you need an effective noise blanker, but this one is the worst i've ever used.like previous reviews state it distorts the rx audio real bad and it still does'nt get rid of all the ignition noise. if i can get this sorted i'll be very pleased with the radio

multi function dial !!!!!!!!!!! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
just bought another dx70 after selling my kenwood ts50 and i just love these little dx machines, ive owned 3 dx70 since they brought them out and i keep going back for more.i use the static teardrop microphone on mine and get awesome reports with it but the only 2 things that let this little radio down it is the multi function dial that JUMPS and the tuneing dial, why couldnt they make one like the 706 thats nice and easy...it can take ages to tune through a band when the multi function switch plays up but im use to that by now after owning 3 and get there in the end when the last progressives being given out...

Alinco 701 Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
The Alinco 701 is the commercial version of the dx 70,mil spec various users include african safari, border patrol units, unsaf, red cross to name but a few.Solid kit mine is tricky to use
via mem channels but works well when you get used to it.

This radio is about the best mobile hf/6m you will ever own, this is my second one{t/th}. Had the 706 & the ft1oo but the Alinco makes them look like toys I can only say that i am very pleased with this radio its a mobile dream come true.

Good except for NB Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I just bought a new DX-70TD from Radio Shack. I like the radio, but it seems that Alinco, after six years, would go ahead and redesign the noise blanker. It is terrible. It causes extreme distortion on signals. Since the DX-70 is designed to be a mobile, this feature is a must! I will hopefully get Alinco to fix it, or go to an FT-100.

Problem fix Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The multi function (rotary encoder) fails after a while, dont dispair. I disassembled the radio and removed the encoder. Examine it and carefully take it apart keeping the lugs intact. Clean the contacts and the rotary bit (looks like a copper daisy) I used fingernail polishing board (very very very fine) for the job. Now re-assemble the switch and take care with the lugs. Solder it back into the radio etc etc etc. I have done mine and the clubs radio and they are both perfect. Review time. This radios performance compares very well with much dearer radios. Recommended.

Getting great reports on DX Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have been having a blast with my new DX-70TH. I picked it up this past June at SEA-PAC. With the DK3 screwdriver antenna, the DSP-9 and a 100 watts, its like being at home in my shack. When I am DXing I get great reports. I just wish I could hear what the other hams are hearing on the other end. I know I will be using this one for years to come.
