They are now digital Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I might try sticking with them a little longer but only as a digital subscriber. They did have the foresight to discount the digital subscriptions by a decent amount. Almost always when I get the latest issue, I look through it and usually disappointed. Every great now and then they'll have something interesting...not very often though! If they had a technical editor and started running some articles that pertained to ham radio it would be interseting. I like homebrew and radio design and construction along with some history of radio and that kind of thing.

An article about someone operating two meters from a golf cart isn't too interesting to me. An article about someone designing and building a 20 meter transceiver would be!

However their magazine CQ VHF is an excellent read! almost all of it is interesting. However it's a little weak when it comes to technology.

Right now my favorite mags are: QST, CQ VHF and Radcom (from the RSGB).

Sure wish Ham Radio magazine or maybe even 73 was still around!

Good as magazines go Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Opinions are opinions, but I think CQ does a pretty good job for a magazine that only offers a magazine.

Because nothing is perfect, it can improve, but I don't know how that will happen without more writers and a good review process to vet articles.

In my opinion, CQ has a good mix of articles.

could use competition 3.5 Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I read cq and also subscribe to qst. I guess both have there place . On cq being emergency oriented, well , duh, thats what they called that month issue and it was well done info .How many times does qst get paranoid on go kits to hu? I thought they would really catch hell when they did the article on converting cb radios to ten menters. the article be brittney kids corner is very well written and I respect her maturity writing . She did an article about lightning protection. Yes , someone wrote with suggetions but they dint critize her. eham writers could take notes on that . On ad and senior citzens discoutns. If every pot bellies grey haired old man on the o cover got a discout they could give away the magazine . But they actually had a nice shot of when the guys two daughters got there liscense and do try to reach out to younger people . Wake up qst. oh on ad, mabey your right , geritol , prune junice and metamucal ads next to mfjs same junk ads may work . I do get it regulary thru mail in one piece , I think qst could actually do a reader survey and find out what we really think like cq does . Hello arrl , think you could do that without endangering your agenda? but what we really need is a consumer digest type reviewer that doesn't get free ar radios to test , or take an advetizing , but like the guy says we cou ld't afford it then .And yes , there is life other than contesting , but it may be the onely time a band is alive and not sold off yet/ kg4ymc

SPONSORS THE BEST DX CONTEST Time Owned: more than 12 months.
IF YOU WANT TECHNICAL/SCHEMATICS READ QST (I'M A LIFE MEMBER). CQ SPONSORS THE BEST WORLD WIDE CONTEST SO NATURALLY IT IS MOSTLY CONTEST ORIENTED. HAS GOOD ANT ARTICLES. IT DOES HAVE DELIVERY PROBLEMS THAT'S FOR SURE.

Enjoyable Magazine Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have been a subscriber for years and find the magazine very enjoyable to read. Contrary to some reviewers, I'm glad it's not like QST, which I also enjoy very much. If they were the same, I wouldn't subscribe to both. Yes, it arrives later than most magazines (I got the October CQ the same day I received the November QST), but that doesn't diminish my enjoyment of what's in it. It really doesn't matter to me what month the issue happens to be.

Excellent General Coverage Time Owned: more than 12 months.
CQ is an excellent general coverage ham magazine. It's column-based, thus it does have monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly columns covering certain segments of the hobby, plus its monthly feature articles. And, CQ has targeted monthly issues each year dedicated to certain important aspects of ham radio, such as EMCOM (emergency communications). Why the criticism based upon this fact by the previous poster, I simply don't know, as QST also publishes issues dedicated to certain aspects of ham radio throughout the year.

For those who may have trouble subscribing through the CQ website, there's always the toll free phone number to call to renew one's subscription. Evidently, some posters here have forgotten how to use a telephone in this Internet age!

At the very least, we need more than one monthly print ham radio magazine in the USA. In this case, a magazine that's totally independent, and not part of a not-for-profit organization (ARRL). For that reason alone, I will continue to support CQ

More practical than QST Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have been a CQ reader since earning my Novice in 1988. The articles contained therein are geared more towards the typical ham rather than a select few. And, when Dave Ingram was still alive and contributing to the magazine, he made QRP something that you almost HAD to try. For the builders among us, the projects are easier to tackle than in many magazines I've read. Glad I'm a subscriber.

Always a good read Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I enjoy it and have received it for some time along with QST the main players in amateur radio awards and contests. Plus they do speak for most all amateurs others who don't belong to anything have no vote on major matters it seems. Maybe not the best but I like CQ because of it's content.
