you will be pleased with this mobile antenna 392M Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Hello all, a couple of month's ago ,I had a prob with my old mobile antenna it broke ,so I was looking around for a better built one and one that can take a bit of power at least 600 pep ssb,

what a job to find one I almost gave up until I found this one on ebay , well I did the ask many question's thing and after a bit of back and worth, I desided to get one and give it a try ,it looked much better than what I had and far stronger too,

looks like im the first out of ZL land to have one, took about 2 week's to get here and was well raped up , I got the full antenna not just the COIL so my one come with the wip , I was very very happy with the build of this mobile I belive it too be very strong and have tested it at 140kph in windy cond's all ok even better than ok,,don't know what speed it could take but 140kph was pleanty fast for me,,

anyhow I put it on the bullbars of my 4x4 and hooked it up woooooo I couldn't belive how much more sig I had comperd to my last multi band stick amazing ,or all the other stick's I have tried out,, well I have been getting real gd reports with it working Europe mobile wail im driving is a blast ,

The manuel is basic and give's you all the info you need to know ,you don't need a tuner with this antenna but it dose take time to get it tuned and if you want to change bands then you need to stop in a rest area and go though the tuning proses ,,but once you have it all sorted where you use it ,,its a brezz and takes 2 min to change bands ,, the main band's I use is 20mtr and 15mtr and this antenna work's better than I expected by far,,, so I ended up getting 2 more ,I now have one on my 20ft boat and carnt wait for summer ( don't think I will be catching much fish though hi hi ) .I do run a amp at 400watts and no prob's at all ,,

If you are looking for a grate built mobile antenna from 80mtr too 10mtr then I highly recommend this one

I am very happy with this one. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought this antenna 2 or 3 years ago and just now got around to installing it on my rollback hauler. At first I made a induction coil as suggested in the instruction sheet but found that in my installation it would not yield the low SWR that I wanted to see across the HF spectrum. I did my math and hand wound a coil then tested it on the Gen-rad 1650A and liked whay I was seeing so today i wound up a real nice on on the lathe over a 1" form and installed it. I now am seeing a 1.2:1 SWR and 50 ohm input from 3.5 MHz to 30 MHz.

Well built solid performer. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I wanted a sturdy portable/mobile antenna that would allow frequency changes without having to change coils. This coil is also sold on eBay under the companies other name, Great Lakes Antennas. YouTube has a few videos of it in use. This antenna suits me perfectly. It is one solid well built antenna which will stand up to abuse. Properly installed, this antenna will allow you to work almost anyone that you can hear. I also use a 16' MFJ telescoping whip in place of the shorter whip which improves performance while stationary mobile or portable. See hamradionation.com for another useful review.

Hi

First of all I don't speak English but I will try to do my best,,, sorry for any errors and/or horrors =)

This is my specific antenna setup and my opinions regarding this new antenna coil.

I bought mine on ebay for $95 if my mind don't fail plus s/h. Item arrived very fast and in perfect shape.

I bough one 392m coil got it just for test because I plan to do radio away from home. When I held the coil on my hand I was impressed because its very very well constructed. This coil will be my first portable antenna, no experience and no knowledge about going portable.

First off all the instructions need to be edited and retyped because they need to includes more info and be more detailed, because they are like a "review" of the developer BUT I want to thanks because I learn a lot looking for info.

The instructions explain a "sample" setup and specify that each particular setup can be different.... very true. They recommend a 10m ham stick antenna (I got one working good) or a 102" CB whip (I own one for years). They used an 80" whip and also recommend a 10 turns 3/4" of diameter hand wound coil to help match the antenna or add capacitance between antenna base and ground also a good ground or counterpoise (new word for me).

I set mine with the ham sick antenna and was impossible to get an acceptable swr reading not even on 10m. Tested the coil method and just get things worst! The 102" whip was a really nightmare and I think about throw the coil to the trash =). Trying to get close as possible to the "instructions sample setup" I took my old 102" and cut it to 80" but not improvements at all. I also made a few matching coils to test with no success.

After all I begin to read about counterpoise, radials and ground cables. Now with the knowledge about counterpoise cables I looked around and found 16' of #14 electrical wire and the light was created!!! I was able to use the antenna on 15m, 20m and 40m with 2:1 swr with good reports but I was not satisfied so I bough more #14 cable and made 4 counterpoise cables with the exact 1/4 wave length for each of the bands I was interested (10m,15m,20m and 40m).

After a research I found hams around the world using 2,3,4 or more counterpoise cables for their portable setups for each bands but I am using just 1 for each band (maybe later I can try with more cables) at a time. Some hams experimented reducing from 6"-1' at a time until the get better results and swr reading,,, I didn't.

Results: Excellent performance on 10m, 15m, 20m & 40m with 1.1-1.3
swr readings over the entire band,,, later may I try 80m. Great reports around the world. Very good reception. Very good construction.

Recommendations: Include the counterpoise cables like other coils and better and more complete instructions.

Great Mobile antenna Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Initial impressions out of the box:
Looks good, seems to be well made, little smaller then I had expected. Tap points and "wander" lead connections are brass and look to be able to hold in place well.
Installation and set up:
Can be mounted directly into any mount using standard 3/8x24 thread. Instructions (which are a little confusing) recommend an 80" whip and the coil screwed directly into the mount. I had to center load mine on a 10" homemade extension and used a 10M jetstream whip tuned for 26 MHz into a homemade bracket that is very well grounded. A standard 11M cb antenna or the MFJ collapsible whip will also work and make this a good choice for a mag mount. I did use a 10 turn coil but turned out the only band I really need it for is 40M. With my setup the tap points are easily repeatable, hold tune over a fairly good bandwidth even on 40 and 75M (although I need to use 2 taps on 75 one for below 3900 and one above 3900 which is to be expected) Has held up well under being smacked into trees ect. Also does well in the rain where you might see a standard "bugcatcher" detune. Over ALL a very well made and easy to tune antenna. I would buy it again in and recommend it to anyone not wanting to spend the big bucks on a screwdriver. A complete review with SWR curves and pictures forthcoming on my Ham Radio Nation Blog site
