It's OK Time Owned: more than 12 months.
But half of it is advertising, and they've apparently never met a radio or other reviewed gear they don't like. Guess it would scare away the advertisers.

technically maybe not a must have Time Owned: more than 12 months.
maybe not a must have, but articles are very clear, easy to understand and let you to imagine, think and produce something you need. The ads are a lot but then they let you know what you can find on the market and what you would be better off tinkering hands on.

Nothing Wrong With QST Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I enjoy receiving and reading my monthly QST as well as supporting the ARRL for the last 36 years. The magazine is colorful, interesting, well laid out with something for everyone while keeping in mind their vast spectrum of readers.

So what's the alternative? Bad mouth the ARRL and end up with no representation so the commercial interest and their lobbyists can rip our ham allocations from us. Something to think about.

No thanks Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Last QST subscription 1966,QRT for 43 yrs. Back on air 3 yrs. ago saw a QST in Dentist office waiting room, looked through it and only recognized a thin glossy version of a HRO catalogue. I can see why the younger jack in the box shack operators would like it. Again no thanks.

Makes good firestarter Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Really boring, unless you like to look at ads. I renew my ARRL membership now and again to see if it has improved. It hasn't. Almost as interesting as CSPAN or QVC network.

DIGITAL Time Owned: more than 12 months.
QST has been the best all around mag on the market for a long time IMHO. BUt, it has gone digital, which is great for me. So if you have a tablet or iPad, go to the ARRL homepage and download your digital copy. Now you can keep all those back issues, without a bookcase full of stuff. Indexing is great too.

Great resource for all levels Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I had been away from ham radio for 10+ years and came back to the hobby in the last year. A lot has changed in Ham Radio as technology has advanced. I am so GLAD that I became a member of ARRL & receive the QST magazine monthly! I enjoy sitting and reading all the articles as there is a variety of topics to appeal to all types of hams: beginner, contester, experimenter, digital, etc.

Best of what's left Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The other reviews have covered quite a range. I gave it a 3 because as some mentioned it has been better in the past. I believe that was because there was some competition. I miss the articles in 73 magazine. Too bad the owners retired and the magazine wasn't carried on by someone with the same zeal. QST has some nice articles, no doubt about that. As others have also pointed out it is quite fat with advertising, not quite sure why so much is needed. I also miss Popular Electronics, Electronics Illustrated, and Electronics World, all periodicals I grew up with while attending high school and beyond and which gave me a good start in the field of electronics. Same with Heathkit and Knightkit. I miss 'em. I feel sorry for the kids today who waste away their days playing video games when they could be doing exciting things in technology. Anyway, QST is the best of what's left, better not beat it up too much. If we want better then better start submitting some good articles to them or keep quiet.

There is always something of interest Time Owned: more than 12 months.
QST has an amazingly wide audience with an equally wide range of interests and a wide level of reader expertise within those interests. For example, a technical article has to challenge the high tech ham and yet be readable by a guy who can't pick up a soldering iron without burning him or herself. And I think they do a great job.

Every month I settle in with the new issue of QST and when I am done reading, I have learned a few things and gotten a few good ideas. And a few new topics for discussion the next time I run into the local hams.

Some stuff I skim lightly -- I'm not a big contester nor a microwave kind of guy, so those don't hold much for me. But even those articles are skimmed and I usually come away knowing a little more about the subject than I did when I started.

And the staff works hard to provide what their audience wants. When there was a growing interest in vintage gear and radio history, they started a column for that. Because of a strong interest in construction, they have the home brew contest which sets parts and cost limits that are obtainable with reasonable effort.

A ham magazine is always at the mercy of its contributors and QST is no different. If articles aren't written and submitted -- and QST has a very high standard -- they aren't going to appear. And month after month QST delivers a quality product and on time. Bravo zulu, guys!!

QST is still a great magazine. I would certainly feel a loss if it suddenly became unavailable.
