This is the one Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
If you are anything more than a casual contester, this is the magazine for you! My only criticism--it does not come each month. Every contester will find something here that is worthwhile.

Getting to be my favorite! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I currently subscribe to QST, CQ and Worldradio as well as NCJ, and have subscribed to 73 and CQ VHF in the past. Of all of these, National Contest Journal is quickly getting to be my favorite magazine. The articles are very interesting and informative! Even if you aren't a contester (I am a casual one) you will find some good articles about different pieces of equipment, operating strategies and locations, etc. For $20 a year it is the second best bargain out there (next to Worldradio). I just wish I hadn't waited so long to subscribe. This is my 27th year as a ham, but my first year for getting NCJ. I can't wait for the next issue to arrive.

Useful Tool Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Recent articles by Al Christman on vertical antennas have been informative. Covers a lot of the contesting spectrum and a great effort put in by the staff to be balanced and useful to all contesters. Tips and tricks for the real estate impaired contesters are fairly regular parts of the quarterly. Would like to see more "small fry" How to articles to attract more folks to the contest world. It may be time for a "stealth" or deed restricted category in the contest world.

The best. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This magazine has more articles on imporving station performance than all other magazines combined. The how-to articles are top notch as is the format and binding of this magazine. Great job!

THE contest magazine Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This is the best contest magazine by far. I have read others too but this one delivers just all you want. Great articles with info you CAN use. No matter you're a little pistol or a Big Gun, it delivers and contributes every time to contesting again and again. '73 Mark, PA5MW

Fantastic Magazine Time Owned: more than 12 months.
If you are interested in competitive radiosport contesting, this magazine is an absolute must. The articles tend to concentrate on North America, but there are plenty of feature articles relating to other parts of the contesting world as well.

The NCJ is basically published at cost, or very close to it. The editor, the columnists, and all of the writers are volunteers. The quality of the content is very good, especially when you consider that the authors are writing for free! But, these authors all share a passion for the sport, and the ARRL professional publishing staff does a great job producing the magazine.

In my opinion, this is the premier specialty publication for Amateur Radio contesting.
