A simple QRPp kit. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Update: I replaced R20 with a resistor of lower value and replaced the chokes in the output with ones that allow a little more power out. Output is now 700 mW and final stays pretty cool. I still love this little kit. I have 3 Rockmites which have about the same PO and have made quite a few contacts with them. This allows frequency variability (the Rockies don't) and this kit was a fun build. Earlier review follows:

I have the board that shows: Splinter II v.2.

This is a nice kit. You build it in stages with a labeled bag of parts (numbered 1-5) for each stage. The board is of excellent quality. The instructions are clear. All parts were there for my build. I started late in the morning and by afternoon had it completed.

Once assembled you have a fairly sensitive and stable DC receiver. At start up I can tune in a station and detect no drift. It has a nice sound and about 100 kHz. The VXO gives me a range, using a 7.114 crystal of 7113.5-7117, about as good as you can expect in such a simple design. The spot switch is quite helpful. Output to my Oak Hills WM-2 is 430mW as 13.8 V and 390mW with my battery pack measuring 12.6V. There is keying circuit, complete with sidetone, which produces a clean CW note. Transition from receive to transmit is with a simple slide switch. The PC board is mounted on a small pine board (included) that I painted yellow and includes decals. I like this little rig and will be spending time on the air with it. In fact I'm listening to it as I write this. Well done!

Easy and fun Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Outstanding instructions, truly idiot-proof. Intermediate testing after each phase to confirm successful assembly.

I enjoyed it immensely. Took about 6 hours of careful, slow and deliberate work over several months (heavy work schedule). Looking forward to the other kits from this vendor.

Super kit, big fun. Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I built this kit in January 2013 and I have a lot of fun using it since. Easily mounted. The documentation is good and the electronic parts are placed by step in plastic bag. Almost imposible to be wrong. No surface mount (thank you). The parts are common and easy to repair if ever there was a misfortune. A major advantage for me is the VFO. About 1 hour for electronics and 2 hours for the paint ...

Building the Splinter was great fun !! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I received the kit within 14 days after ordering .To my big surprise the shipping and other costs to the Netherlands were included in the price !! Those costs were $ 12.75 !! Thank you , you are very generous Bill.
The building was not a problem. I am Lucky to know my fellow hams who do have frequency meters for in the beginning I thought I had made many mistakes in mounting the parts. De frequency measurement however told us that the tuning can in the receiver circuit was 6400 kHz and thus far below the 7030 QRP QRG !!
Now the rig proper aligned delivers 500 milliWatts at 13.8 Volts supply Voltage.
It is a pleasure to listen to a noise free DC RX !!
Chapeau Bill !!

Great Product, Better Customer Service! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I received the Splinter in a timely fashion.
When I opened the box, there were 5 bags of parts, all numbered 1-5. These bags correspond with the written instructions. After finishing the wooden breadboard and assembling the Splinter, I had a couple of problems after assembly which were operator error!
I sent the Splinter back to Bill and he fixed my screw ups and returned the unit to me. It now works like a champ and I just ordered the Toothpick Audio CW Filter/Amp to complete my latest QRP setup!
You cannot go wrong with these products. They are fun to put together and fun to use.
