Review Summary For : Hi-Q-4/80 RT MC-2
Reviews: 1MSRP: 395.00
Description:
The Hi-Q-4/80 RT is a motorized, Remotely Tunable HF Mobile antenna. This is
the MOST efficient motorized tunable HF Mobile antenna built today. The coil
diameter is perfectly chosen and optimized at the 40M band with only small
performance change on 80 and the higher bands.

Changes made to the

Hi-Q-4/80 and the -160 MC-1 series:

NEW Contactor design, Silver-plated Brass balls instead of the finger stock.
Giving a CONTANT Pressure contact to the loading coil wires for a smoother
tuning.

Now it is designated as MC-2 series.

All Mechanical and electrical parameters are as the earlier MC-1 series.
Product is in production

Simply the Best! for a "mighty mobile" Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I was caught up with no base station after my move back to VK from ZL.
I soon realised I required something more to compete with base stations for a DX contact. I had plenty experience in VK/ZL on holiday or work excursions using temp mobile ops, 100w into stick antennas.

I ordered the 4/80 MC2 with Package B after a chat with Woody and much web surfing. Selected this model as I wanted an antenna good for 20/40m DX and good for running higher power.

Yes, Its a bunch dearer than the regular rest on the market, but worth every $ if you want to QRO the LF Bands efficiently.

Located on a 5/8x3x12" Al bar off my tow hitch, some grounding work and my H/B feed matching. I dont require any antenna tuner on 20, 40 & 80m. DPDT switch for tuning is acceptable.....just.

Results for 1 Yr: Using 102" whip, EB8 & some salt water ;)
- 40m. Worked all USA states except for MS, incl some mob-mob. All 7 continents.
- 80m. Max QRB - Puerto Rico, Oregon USA

Recommendations:
-Buy with the "value" Package B
-102" Whip if you can, had to pay long $$ to get down under!
-Stainless GWD option if you plan to take down often like me
-EB8 gives great BW on 40m
-Feedpoint matching, as this antenna Z is ~20 ohms

Is there better?
Maybe.......but by how much?
I acquired the Hi-Q-6/160 RT MC-3H in Jan13 for better 80m work and its not showing up my 4/80 on 80m !!
