Fine radio Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I was in the army national guard during the 1970s. Every armory in the state had a crystal controlled Swan 400 on a frequency somewhere in the 5 MHz range. We took them to the field during summer camp. They did a great job! I repaired a couple of them, but they were very reliable considering the hard use they were given.

A "must have" for any Swan fan! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
As mentioned above, the 400 was the first multi-bander offered by Swan, this rig is hands-down the baddest of the Swan lineup for longevity, the 6hf5 finals can really take a beating, the remote VFO can be extremely steady, easy to repair, and darned good looking!

I have a 400A and a 400G (still awaiting revival), and I can't wait to get my hands back on it, it's a joy to listen to, and it delivers the punch that made Swan famous, there aren't too many rigs out there that swing for the 400 watt mark, and with a fresh set of finals, this old gal will do just that!

It doesn't take much to bring one back, test the resistors, replace the caps, and hit it! I'll definitely look for another one, and suggest this rig for anyone that wants to learn a bit, and know the pleasure of keeping their own radio alive! If you get a chance to use one, don't pass it up!

Nice Boatanchor Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
First 5 band SSB HF rig by Swan in 1964. Picked up at Hamfest and has become my favorite Swan. 400W out, great audio reports.
