just the thing for HTs Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
If you have to use a HT in the car, this is a handy antenna to get your signal up so others don't have to strain to hear you. Keep in mind that the rather desirable very-low-profile design and ideal-length, direct-coax-to-the-radio configuration does exhibit meaningful tradeoffs. For example, for VHF, the capacitive coupling of the small form factor teardrop base to the car body is insufficient to promote any efficiency. You get the clear benefit of the antenna being outside the car, but that's about it. It's fine for UHF. But on UHF, you have a bit more loss than you'd like to have in the RG174 cable. On VHF, the 50 ohm resonance is well above the ham band, so, the match to the radio is borderline acceptable. On UHF, the match is okay, under 2:1 even at 449 MHz. No adjustments are provided for. The magnet quality / strength is quite good! It takes a fair bit of impact to dislodge the antenna, but it's not hard to reposition when needed. The standard style SMA make is very high quality and it had a heatshrink type strain relief. You'll need an adapter (easy to find for $6 or so at hamfests) for some HTs that don't have SMA females.

Diamond MR73SA Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought this antenna as subsitute for a full sized mobile antenna for my car as my wife does not want me to have a full time radio in the car.So with that in mind I have a TYT UVF-1 handheld that i use with this antenna and I am getting great reviews on the signal as opposed to the stock antenna and I am vey pleased with it and I do recommend it for in town repeater use.
