Definitely a better solution than the dumb OEM wall charger and its 12 hr charge time. However, I think one pays a price for the universal character of this EMS-57-83: it feels like a one-fits-all-but-none-fit-right solution. Everything feels cheap, not solid. The battery wobbles in its seat and looks like it hardly makes contact with the two poles (not three as on their picture!). With a longer belt clip, you will have to open it wide to get an HT with battery deep enough into the charger.

All that said, it does what it says it will, charge a battery in roughly 3 hours, depending on remaining charge. Then it switches to trickle. There is no drain option.

The battery will be quite warm (not hot) at the end of the charging cycle, but I assume that comes with rapid charging.

The global-voltage power adapter plugs into the desktop unit, so they can be separated if need be.

Input from the adapter: 13 - 15.8VDC @ 950mA-1A.
Quick charge rate: 600mA (-dV detect)
Trickle charge: 25mA (float)

Obviously I cannot say anything yet about resulting battery lifespan with this charger, I only got it recently.

I do like Battery America's quick and very reasonably priced shipping option of Priority Mail.
