Great Rig! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Update 11/29/2024

Still in use and i keep it often for /m and also /p in a pelican case. Works like a charm. It is a very powerful Rig with all modes and 2m/ 70cm and SW.
The Pelicase can be just in the trunk and the Head can be used in the front. Very nice!

---------------------------------------------------------

I use it in my car and have everything i want.
So that is the whole shortwave + 2m and 70cm and SSB as well. Also it has a detachable head.

It has also USB and a internal soundcard. So FT8 etc. is already very easy to setup.

Dear heart of a radio operator, what would you like more?

Never ever i had a failure with this radio!

I like it very much!

Great radio for a mobile setup! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I got mine on sale from GigaParts shortly before the Hamvention in May. Sat in its box while I picked up a few things from Hamvention to aid in mounting it in my car, which is a retired Michigan state police Ford SUV. I mounted an Icom AH-4 tuner in the spare tire well, and used the existing antenna holes in the roof (which had rubber plugs in them when I bought the car) to mount a UHF/VHF dual band antenna on the passenger side, and an old MFJ "gumdrop" style 3/8-24 mount with a heavy-duty Hustler barrel spring and a Hustler QD, topped with an 80 meter "hamstick" type antenna, on the driver side. The AH-4 has no difficulty tuning the hamstick on 6m-80m (in my experience, an AH-4 will pretty much tune a piece of wet string...). The main unit is under the rear passenger seat where the police radio unit was originally mounted, while the control head is conveniently mounted on a bendable "gooseneck" type mount held in place by a seat bolt on the passenger side. The radio itself is easy to program with local repeater frequencies and doesn't do half bad on HF with the antenna and tuner setup I have. Seriously considering getting another to mount in my camping trailer!

Nice rig for (Maritime) Mobile Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought my 7100 second-hand to install on our boat and avoid having to move my IC-7300 between the house and the boat every week. The format of the 7100 is perfect for this application - I can mount the base unit plus an LDG auto-ATU in a spare locker and take the control head to the operating position in either the cockpit or at the chart table.

The LDG ATU does a decent job of tuning up a random wire hauled up the mast on a halyard and a VHF/UHF mobile antenna fixed to the pushpit gets me into all the local repeaters. I've bought some off-cuts of copper sheet and hang a couple of pieces into the water to provide an RF ground.

Performance has been good - ok, not as good as the 7300 that I use in the house, but much better than I have managed before from experimental maritime mobile installations. My 15 metres of wire will tune up reasonably well on all bands from 80m to 6m and I have received 5/9 reports from stations 3 or 4 thousand miles away.

Avoiding RF feedback into the boat systems is a constant battle. I had to adjust cable routing and add an extra RF ground plate to stop the bow-thruster going off every time I hit the key on 20m and anything more than 40w on 80m will turn the boat power off completely, requiring a full reset! I still have some cables longer than is necessary and I'm hoping that tidying that up will overcome this. Still, all in all a successful experience and /MM operation is fun - those rare DX stations that are not particularly interested in "yet another G8" seem much more inclined to respond to "G8FXC/MM"

Very nice all-in-one radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have been familiar with Icom radios for a long time having owned a 706MkIIg, 746 and 7800. I wanted to buy a radio for multi-purpose uses like operating portable, giving demonstrations and as a backup rig. I recently bought an IC-7100 because it meets every criterion I had. One of its main uses for me is as a vacation rig and having multi-mode capability with HF through 70cm coverage in one radio is great. With respect to performance, I find it to be excellent and just what I want from a second rig. The adjustable filters and noise reduction features work very well. Once you get the hang of the menu system, finding various settings is easy. If you want to operate the FT-modes you will have to download a driver from Icom, but after that setting it up is straightforward with a single convenient USB connection to the computer. On phone and my favorite mode, CW, I have had many nice QSOs with good results and the adjustable filter settings really come in handy. I am very satisfied with both the portability and performance of the 7100. It fits my needs perfectly.

Good value compact base / mobile Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Below is an edited version of my original review from July 2014:

Just put the 7100 in the shack yesterday but the improvement over the 7000 was immediately noticeable. Improved signal to noise ratio, recovered audio is great into an external speaker, the DSP is a big improvement, filtering is better and controlling power output, mic gain and filtering is so much simpler. Screen is great and easy on the eyes. Drives my Acom 1000 very smoothly, no spikes or overshoot at all.
The IC 7000 is now relegated to the car for mobile and portable work.

Cheers

Uhf vhf finals failed within 1 month Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
First time on vhf it failed during a 15 minute qso. Antenna had a 1.4 swr. Uhf began failing soon thereafter. I love the control panel but the quality control sucks.

A versatile rig Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought this rig more than 3 years ago during a Black Friday sale. During that time I used it on HF a couple times. I have other radios and I was saving the 7100 for future use. Well, the future arrived in May when I put a 13 element yagi for 2 meter SSB/CW/digital on my tower. With a 200 watt amp, I have been running FT8 on 144.174 MHz and really enjoying it. I am regularly working a PA station on a 450 mile path with very little propagation enhancement. Plus many other stations in surrounding states, plus FT8 contacts into Michigan, Alabama, Georgia and Ontario.

Eventually, I plan to move the 7100 to my car for HF and VHF mobile and replace it in the shack with an IC-9700. I ran an IC-706MK2G in my car for years. No problems with it but the 7100 has a hotter front end and a more effective noise blanket which can be crucial in mobile operating. 73, Dave, N4KZ

Fantastic! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
What is up with the 4.4?I just got mine and WOW is all i can say.I have had the 7300 as well and to my ears (Where it counts)It sounds way better not tinny sounding and it puts out a solid 110 watts using a sm 30 microphone with great reports..Will update soon but so far i am impressed!

Color Touch-Screen - VHF/UHF AM Mode Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Here's my wish list for the 7100:
Color Touch-Screen - VHF/UHF AM Mode
Make the Color Touch Screen an Option. Not having AM Mode on the 7100 is similar to not having FM Mode yet a Squelch Control on the 7200. C'mon Icom ... get it together. It's 2022. It's nonsense not to have these on the 7100 yet have them on its forerunner the 7000. I luv both the 7000 & 7100 but wish Icom would "step up" the 7100.

Fantastic and compact radio Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Update 18 june 2022
Still love this radio, all bands in to a small box.
Recommended!

I am using the 7100 for two years,
I like the compact size and all the HF, VHF and UHF bands.
With the external speaker he sounds great.
This one is a keeper in my shack.
