Great back-up radio Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I used the 7100 as my base radio while my 7800 was in for repair and firmware upgrade. Received great reports on HF. Still attempting to get it setup for D-Star.
I noticed that the HF would blank out after a few seconds of monitoring, on a regular basis. After trying different settings I discovered that with the WX activated I would get the Squelch but it went away after turning the WX OFF.

Amazing rig Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is my first rig. So far I have tested the radio, I can not se any problems yet. The small size makes it easy to sneak it in among other things on the desktop. It is a sensetive radio with plenty of opportunities hidden in a labyrinth of menus.
Now I use 30 day free demo of Ham Radio Delux, DM780 and USB cable to get full control of the treansceiver. The combination makes it very easy to use many different operating modes in a simple way.

I like this Japanese "Swiss Army Knife", containing just about every feature you can imagine in small size transceiver.

Pretty good for what it is. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I can honestly say that I am impressed with this little radio. I thought that the HF side would be real noisy or half deaf and that is not the case. I purchased this to be used as a 2 meter all mode and for D-Star use. I figured that I would not use it for HF unless I went mobile. After trying it out, the HF is better than expected and it gives my 7410 a run for it's money.
The DSP works well, the rx audio is pretty good even with the internal speaker and I get good audio reports with an ICOM base station microphone.
Overall, I think most people would be happy with this radio. Don't expect it to be a top end radio but don't think it is going to be a dog because it's far from it! I give ICOM an A for this one!

Hard to beat! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought this unit to replace an Icom IC-7000, which I have enjoyed using. I've had a few other rigs over the years, but overall, the 7100 is the best radio I've owned. For the price, there is nothing else out there that can touch it. I use it with an external speaker and antenna tuner.

I like the way it sounds. I like the sensitivity of the radio. I like how I sound when I transmit. I thought I would miss the color display on the 7000, but, that's not a concern anymore. The display, although monochrome, is adjustable, easy to see and I've found the touch screen and buttons easy to navigate through. Within a few hours of use I was fully comfortable with using the radio.

One can always nitpick and say, "Well, it doesn't have this, or it doesn't do that," but for less than $1,500.00 it rivals the performance of much more expensive transceivers in every way which is important, I think, for ham use.

Very Nice! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Fantastic DC through light mobile transceiver. I have never been a huge Icom fan when it came to the 706 or 7000, but the 7100 is a completely different radio. It truly reminds of the Icom 9100 when I owed it (great radio). The receiver is impressive and super sensitive even at the higher bands. I primarily use the 7100 remote using the RemoteRig interface (another great product). This setup works as if the radio is with you all the time, quite impressive… I wasn’t overly excited about the touch screen, but works well and responsive even when using remote. I use this primarily for 144.200 weak signal work. Again, I’m very impressed with how it does. I’ve used many radios for this band/mode over the years and this one is for sure in the top 5. The noise blanker is very effective at removing noise that would make a contact otherwise impossible. Just the other night I was checking into a 2m net and had S7 power line noise. Hit the NB button and the noise complexly disappeared and out popped net control. The NB seems to be the same as the 9100 and very comparable to the Electraft K3 NB which in my opinion is the best on the market. On weak signal work, NB means everything in an area polluted with power line noise.
So in summary, I wouldn't hesitate buying this radio again. Very nice addition to the few radios in my ham radio collection and is one of the few that I use daily.
Feel free to email or contact me with any questions.

Great Radio, Very pleased. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Amazing Radio, Great value. I now have (2) units and they both work great. I have not seen any of the problems some others have talked about. One unit is about 1 year old the other is just a few weeks. I use them in my den and the small size fits what I do without all the clutter of my old ham radio stuff.

I have (2) of them and they work great. Excellent receiver, wonderful frequency stability. Transmitter sounds great with a good mic. Small and fits into my home den without all the big ham radio clutter.

Fantastic Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Perfect for the serious performance AND value-oriented ham. Very 2013/14 in design (modern touchscreen), technology (IF DSP, SDR capable and even built-in 160m to 70cm SWR band sweep!)and features (too many to list). I think what is particularly interesting about this unit is how small and light it is, which lends itself to be transported in a small bag from shack to car, boat or second home for vacation use. I've combined it with a LDG IT-100 which tunes up perfectly and automatically matches up to 10:1 SWR on 160 to 6 meters.

This is my first rig since getting back in amateur radio as an Amateur Extra since I last held a Technician license in 1967 and I am just loving it. I have the control head remoted about 10 feet away from the control unit and it sits unobtrusively on my desk. I have connected it to Ham Radio Deluxe on my laptop using the built-in USB and it work like a charm.

The only negatives is the unit is so full of features that it takes a very careful read through both the Basic and the Advanced Manuals to learn exactly how to operate each one of them.
