Review Summary For : Yaesu FTdx-1200
Reviews: 129MSRP: 1879
Description:
The FT DX 1200 provides up to 100 Watts on SSB, CW, and FM
(25 Watts AM carrier) and a rugged state of the art highly
balanced receiver circuit configuration for top performance
on today’s crowded bands. Similar to the high end “YAESU FT
DX” series, it uses 32-bit high speed floating point DSP.
Yaesu’s acclaimed superior DSP algorithm is highly effective
in weak signal processing and enhancement. The 1st IF
frequency is protected by selectable 3 kHz, 6 kHz and 15 kHz
roofing filters that effectively attenuate interfering
signals.
Product is in production

Good Value Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Highly recommend installing the FFT board and updating the rig with the latest firmware. The multi-color FFT waterfall is helpful. "Part-time" Band scope has limited usefulness. Rig does have good ergonomics. There really is no "VFO-B", it is only used for "Split" operation. Receiver is quite sensitive and quiet. DSP noise reduction algorithm is a bit aggressive, even at Step 1. I prefer the DSP ANR in the FT-950. I am considering G4HUP's "PAT" board which will permit a full time pan-adapter tap off the 40mhz IF. I have not had any of the "muting" issues described in previous posts. I recommend doing full reset, that may very well take care of it. Overall the rig is a very good value and compromise for the casual operator like myself.

sound mutes Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Seems to be having same problem as VK4MAD, sound mutes on release of ptt on transmit. I have to scroll through mode button back to ssb or turn on and off the radio to restore sound . Only a couple of weeks old from new. There seems to be a number of these reports on google search. waiting to hear from Yaesu.

I love it Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I am a new HAM so my opinion might not count for as much as a seasoned HAM but I started out with the 1200 and I love it. It is easy to use, fun to play with all the features and packs a real punch. I didn't trust the antenna tuner at first so I bought a separate unit but since have come to trust it. It makes things so much easier. I wish it displayed the SWR as part of the tuner but as I said, I'm learning to trust it.

KG5ABW Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have the FTDX1200, FTDX3000, and a FTDX5000MP LiMITED.
ALL three radios have their own unique features and I am pleased
with each of them. I would buy them again if I had to.

Exellent Rig Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Just got this rig a little over a week ago and so far I love it. The menu is easy and straight forward it has been a pleasure to operate with. Good reports so far with the stock hand mic after working some DX and having a couple of QSOs with folks who know how I usually sound on HF. Looking forward to cooler weather and some band openings .

Excelente for price Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I really enjoyed the CW decoder. At the reception the DSP is excellent. The audio in TX and RX are also great. The distribution of the controls on the panel and TFT display setting greatly facilitate the operation DX. Excellent radio including price.

Worht it to buy low coast and excelent for all modes. I liked it very much of FTdx 1200 in contests. In CW mode with ham radio deluxe software he is excepcional. worth it. He is very good rig.Congratulations YAESU.

I'm quite surprised by the quality of the receiver in the FTdx-1200. DSP is highly efficient. The 1st IF is protected by roofing filters that effectively attenuate interfering.I like the several controls that are now accessible directly. Very nice great radio and very good for cost price. Ilike it!

The triple conversion receiver, and gain distribution at each IF stage eliminated out of band unwanted signal. Roofig filters that effectively attenuate interfering signals.the receiver is very quiet. I'm continually impressed by the performance of this transceiver.

My 2nd 1200. Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
There is no perfect rig no matter how much $$$ you spend. I write a lot of reviews because I'm continually searching for that perfect radio and have owned numerous. First off, I only work cw. I have no really strong local signals to deal with. The build quality of this radio is excellent. I have no idea how Yaesu can do it for the price this rig is currently selling for. The display and scope are really useful and nice to look at. Side by side comparisons with my TS-590sg performance wise appear to be the same. I can pull weak cw signals out of the noise with either rig. Here is the deal. Spend time adjusting the different options especially the contour adjustment and audio peaking filter. Use the IPO and bypass the pre-amps as they only increase the back ground noise in most instances. I seem to be using the 1200 more than the 590 simply because the scope is so darn useful plus I just like looking at the 1200. Most of the new radios from the three major JA manufacturers are all excellent but you really need to make adjustments through the various menu features. None of the auto tuners will tune as well as some of the old rigs. Modern rigs will only adjust swr if the antenna is cut close to the operating frequency. One other thing, Yaesu is an awesome company to deal with. I have abused their radios through stupidity and they have fixed more than one under warranty at no charge. If you decide on this radio I think you will be pleased with its performance.

I write lots of reviews on new and older radios I like owning different rigs for a few months and moving on to the next. Most of the newly released rigs are pretty darn good. Here is what I like about this rig; The current price makes this a super value. The color scope, very useful. The overall ergonomics, everything is laid out perfectly. The menu, while extensive will require very little change from the factory recommended settings. A nice quiet fan. Fan noise drives me crazy! The build quality of this radio is excellent. I most likely will keep this rig longer than the others that I have owned(TenTec Eagle, FTdx 3000, IC-7410, TS-590, IC-7100 etc) Have fun making your decision. If you have questions on any of the radios I have mentioned feel free to email me.

It is ordinary toy Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.

Hello , I had the opportunity to try for a few weeks ,
I do not like to walk. not buy ever ,
Looks like a toy , poor quality of construction, TFT display poor quality audio bad and poor receiver RX , I can only rescue the audio tx is good, but is far from an ICOM and Kenwood TS- 590S is much best.
Not recommend , try other radios before buying this ,
Thank you. 73

After 2 years , I decided to change my 590, but I wondered what would . FTDX1200 had in sight , thanks to a friend who lent me the ftdx1200 for a week, I noticed the quality of completion of Kenwood, the reception of the 590 is the best, and all tests Realize lead me to 590 is better .
TS- 590, has better receiver, low noise , the tuner is ultra fast and noise-free quality of audio in RX is superior, has the filter 5k bandwidth , I like the ESSB and the 590 can appreciate the audio quality of my friends.
The first thing to note in the ftdx1200 , poor quality materials, sensitive and uncomfortable when VFO tuning the VFO adjustment ring is mediocre plastic toy looks , the 1200 receiver is noisy very noisy, poor audio quality to adjust the power you have to go to the menu and look for the function , I have to squeeze at least 5 Buttons , 590 in one period.
but when installed next to each other I realized that quality is SUPERIOR Kenwood throughout. once again, I'm glad to own a 590.

Finally ftdx1200 not have the USB port ,
My 590 has constanetemente and use to make recordings , radio management through me pc is easy.

I would have to compare with but I think FTDX3000 be the same, we used a TFT if the radius is poor
