Great performance Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
It took several years of scouring eham and Dayton to find both the tuner and base mount and the 2-section antenna, but it was worth it. While rather military looking, the combo performs very well, easily comparable to my Tarheel 100HP plus the SGC is easily unmounted. Like most remote tuners, it needs 12V to operate. and the "lock switch" is recommended, but it you're way out in the boonies and need HF, this combo will do it for you.

8' HF mobile helical whip Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
i've had better results with this antenna (and SGC-230 remote transmatch) on my Sport Trac than any of these other antennas:
- Tarheel II screwdriver
- Hustler system
- hamsticks
- 108" whip and SGC-230.

All of the other antennas tried on this vehicle exhibited poor performance, i,e, unreliable, tuning point constantly drifting.

The vehicle is nowhere ideal for an HF antenna: the truck bed is made of a composite resin, all RF and DC grounds had to be plumbed in with braid and wire. The mount was placed on one of the 6 tie down halyards located on the outside and around the top of the truck bed.

As the OP stated, the SGC303 is helical-wound copper tape, and is electrically longer than it is physically long. The whip screws together in the middle with a substantial cylinder of threaded, chromed stock, and the length of the antenna is covered in thick black, flexible, one-piece wrap. Very well constructed, high quality materials.

In this case, the premium (>$200) price paid yielded a premium, heavy duty radiator that looks like it can take a beating, and loafs along with a typical 100W mobile exciter. A remote transmatch at the base of the antenna is required.

Great with the SGC tuner Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I have had one of these before( it got lost in a move) In my mobile I can work 160 to 6 meters. Yes you must BOND vehicle very well.I run the SGC237 and their smart lock.. I plan on buying their 500 watt amp when released, and also will buy the HIGH powered tuner,(sg235).. Use this setup on on my Chevy Tracker 4x4. It is a very small vehicle . But I constally am told very loud signal on the bands I use most..80,40,20, and up...any questions email me at dave.passons@gmail.com
