If you buy this 'guide' consider it a donation to ARRL. I doubt if a new ham could actually use this manual to make a successful contact. A chatty argument for the 'fun' of CW but bereft of much actual operating info and fleshed out with charts and lists that could easily be downloaded off the internet for free.

At 18 dollars plus shipping, this puffed up pamphlet is the worst value for money that this ARRL life member has ever purchased from the league.

Not what it seems Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Turns out this book is actually meant as a class companion for the CWops CW Academy. The ARRL store site fails to mention this little tidbit. Fie on them for that. This is an 80 page stapled pamphlet. If you're thinking (as I was) that you're going to get detailed info on the ins and outs of CW operating, maybe CW contesting or DXing tips...well you're not. There is NOTHING here you cannot find free on the internet. Also turned out I could have gotten free shipping if I had simply been to the CWops website first and gotten the code...except when I ordered the book I had never heard of CWops.
