Bird Cage and Cat Litter Box Liner... Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I used to subscribe many years ago to 73 and its spin-off, Radio Fun. I gave up on both because of the endless babble that Wayne would spew out that had absolutely nothing to do with amateur radio.

Recently, I picked up a copy of 73 to see if it had changed. Most unfortunately, it has not. But, I did take it home and lined my cat's litter box with it. If the mag is absorbant of anything, well...

Wayne, give it up. Your time is past. But if you want to continue publishing such an awful magazine, then go ahead. The bird owners of the world will thank you, and my cat will thank you as well.

73, Silent Key Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
73 magazine is really dead now, I am not sure Wayne Green knows it yet but it's time to put it out of it's misery. Wayne, your magazine was never very good and now it's pathetic. It's time to say, " DIE ", not to be confused with your former statement of, "Never Say Die".... You should be able to see from these reviews that your arrogant blow hard style to radio has been for nothing. Your voice was amoung the unappreciated and undesired. Time for you to spend some quality time doing something out of the public eye. Maybe you could finally learn CW or something else useful. 73 to your very pathetic rag called 73...GOOD RIDDANCE ! !
LONG LIVE QST ! ! ! Yea ! ! !

I saw it today....... Time Owned: N.A.
I went to AES and saw the magazine there. After looking at the issue, I can only say it looks like a dead horse being beaten to bring it to life. Very thin, some good articles, few ads ( I like ads! ) and a lot of Wayne Green. Of course it is HIS magazine to do with as he wishes, but I certainly would not subscribe just to give him a forum. Sad.
But as I said, he deserves his due...he is a pioneer and was a major factor in our getting repeaters on the air and pushing the envelope on other things. But resting on those past accomplishments and expecting subscribers to go along with it bacause of a distinguished past isn't good either. Fairwell, Wayne. IMHO, it appears to me that it is time to enjoy life in some endeavor other than the magazine.
73,
Frank

I used to subscribe to 73ART as well. I remember the magazine when it was the small format and I liked the content and size. Then it changed to the larger format and it seemed to lose its punch and ad base. Then it was sold and lost even more. I got tired of reading Wayne's stuff that was interlaced throughout the magazine. I remember when Wayne started Micro 80 and Byte magazines. You cant take away the fact that Wayne had timed a lot of his stuff at just the right time to be usefull with current technology. Unfortunately, I think he has gone past his prime and like an old singer, just wont accept that. I quit getting the magazine years ago after realizing Wayne wasn't going to change and I didn't like having to get past his drivel to read the good stuff. So I read the good stuff in World Radio,CQ and QST. It is too bad Ham Radio Magazine went away. I miss that one greatly. Here's to Wayne Green, he is a true pioneer, but it is time to put the magazine to bed.

Lot's of Nuts Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Like so many others I was a subscriber. Even in the early days I didn't care for
Wayne Green's comments. The rest of the magazine was fine. Later on it seemed he got
back into it just to have a platform to launch his personal diatribes from. He has never been
able to understand that two or more people can see the same situation in a completely
different light. It was "Wayne's" way, or no way. Just because we don't agree doesn't
make one of us a "bad" person!
And now the really bad news! There is no good "Ham" magazine any more in the USA.
But the "best" for my money is; "WorldRadio".

Long overdue for dying off. Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Wayne's magazine was good in its time. It reached its peak in the late 1970s, then has gone downhill ever since, to way below where it started out. It's just a shadow of its former glory. Remember when each issue was over 200 pages thick?

Well, Wayne won't stop publishing it. I guess there has to be a "worst ham magazine" and this is the one. It even makes CQ look good by comparison, and CQ has been pretty crummy for years. Those guys who bought lifetime subscriptions years ago are probably the only ones laughing, they got their money's worth years and years ago.

Face it, if you want a decent ham mag, QST is the only game in town.

Not worth it anymore Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I was a subscriber three years to 73 and let my subscription expire; I had enough of Wayne Green and his tripe. Ten years later, I took it for another year to see if there had been any improvements, and I did not renew. I am afraid to say 73 is still a waste of money. Over a year's time there where 5 monthly articles on using the tuner in a VCR!? This poor excuse for a ham radio magazine is so boring, I usuily read it in 20 minutes. By the way, this is not a magazine for any beginning ham. QST and CQ offer much more within it's pages.

Well I don't believe in O ratings! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I think this magazine is put together by Wayne's grand kids using cut and paste. The moon missions are all part of some conspiracy by the government to fool the world? I can use electrons to heal myself of disease? This is the kind of non-ham garbage you will find in this rag. It makes a great fire place starter log, just roll it up tight and use duct tape, otherwise I would recommend it to hams that are also members of the Heaven's Gate Cult. Beam Me Up, Wayne.

Pure Wayne Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I do not necessarily agree with what Wayne says or the facts he uses to support his arguments and have written him a spirited note or two. But for a column that is always provocative, that is always dedicated to challenging the status quo, you can't beat this guy. I hope he goes on forever and I wish other people spoke their minds as honestly as he does. So I will continue to be a subscriber because it sure gets you blood moving in the morning!

Wayne's Editorials are worthwhile! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Personally, I really enjoy Wayne's editorials -- they are the only reason I subscribe to 73. Once a month they challenge my assumptions about the world and encourge me to think about things a bit differently. I don't always agree -- but it is a refreshing change. Wayne's unconventional ideas have been the genesis of many interesting conversations.

Maybe we went to the moon -- maybe we didn't. Just because the government says we did doesn't make it so.

Consider one of my favorite quotes, attributed to Machiavelli: "For every problem there is a solution, that is very very obvious, very very simple, and very very wrong!" Wayne's editorials challenge the simple obvious solutions so popular in our society.
