repeatable and substantial Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I have several ham-grade VNAs. The first was the Ten-Tec - pricey, limited life SMA connectors and limited frequency range with now abandoned software. The next was the miniVNA-tiny. It was useful, repeatable with careful use but finicky. The SMA connectors are a drawback. Temperature played a big part in the variations. The software is supported, but somewhat odd. The Array Solutions VNA-UHF is the most useful to me. It has been very repeatable, and the unit is substantial. That is, I can hook it to a device under test and the VNA stays on the bench. It isn't hanging in mid air because it's a lightweight plastic box connected by subminiature coax with SMA connectors. Type N are much more substantial and well matched to the frequency range. The VNA-UHF would be my choice starting now. One improvement would be open source software, to standardize nomenclature and add useful features.

Super tool Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Perfect for networks, e.g. tuning band pass filters. Replaces my AIM4170 which was only 1 port. This vna is a keeper for this kind of work.

excellent 'low cost' upper UHF analyzer Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
We have quite a number of analyzers with all varying number of frequency ranges they cover. Generally, they are all accurate soemwhere but the higher they go, the more inaccuracies creep in. The VNA-UHF is excellent with stability all the way through and thus is ideal for those who want to experiment towards microwave frequencies, on a budget but do not want to compromise on accuracy.

The VNA-UHF is comparable with our Anritsu analyzer of much higher value. However, it is far more feature-rich and easier to use than the Anritsu too which is a big plus.

It is early days yet but I can see this becoming the day to day reference tool for day to day confirmation up to around 1Ghz
