Didn't sell out!! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Just got a sample copy of WorldRadio, and read the editoral column. Finally!! A radio publication that doesn't just go for the fast buck and sell us out on code testing. Their editoral says that lowering the testing requirements and standards are not "getting in step with the rest of the world." Instead, they think we should be leading by maintaining our high standards and requirements. THANK YOU! Finally a voice of reason! CQ wants to eliminate the CW subbands, so I didn't renew my subscription.

You add to this World Radio's great columns, and it is an excellent publication. And what a bargin. Sign me up for several years, and keep CW testing forever!!

The magazine is worth the subscription price just to read Kurt N Sterba's antenna column. Kurt does a great job of explaining true antenna fundamentals and debunking antenna manufacturers claims. After listening to the local repeater here, I am convinced that all amateurs should read Kurt's column. It is amazing what people will fall for today. I constantly hear things like "My Omni directional horizontal loop antenna works better than any yagi." and "A vertical antenna is more than enough for HF. A beam is just a waste." And how about "Why would anyone ever want to put up more than a wire antenna for HF?" It seems that an antenna manufacturer can print any old lie about their product-and many do-and the local hams all run out and waste their money on it-and then tell me how it is a waste of money and space to have a yagi up. Oh well, makes it easier for me to break the pileups.

Kurt constantly explains how these claims violate the laws of physics, and so aren't true. I feel that with the easier exams today, we all need a good education in antenna fundamentals so we aren't wasting out money on outrageous products. Some of these advertisers should be thrown in radio prison for their claims. There is one windom company that really piles it deep in their ads. Kurt can save you alot of money and headaches, and that alone pays for the subscription, plus it is the least expensive magazine out there-a lifetime subscription for under $190!! Wish I would have done the lifetime thing back when I was licensed in 1980.

I have subscribed to Worldradio for several years now, and for the price it cannot be beat. This magazine covers something for everyone, except it may be a little short on contesting. The DX column is sufficient, and it has great coverage of IOTA and county hunting, for people into those sports. It also has great human interest stories. As has been said before, Kurt N Sterba's ariel column is excellent. I have learned more about antennas from him than from any other source, and he does get through a lot of the misclaims out there. Will keep subscribing as long as the price stays the same. When I had to choose between WorldRadio and CQ for economic reasons, CQ lost. I now pick up the contest issues of CQ at the bookstore.

Can't wait to get the CATZ award from Worldradio also. Still need to get around to send in for the W-100-N award.

Tired of newspaper Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I got it for a year but let it expire. Most of the articles seemed to be rambling and boring and many had technical errors. I also got tired of paying for the cruddy newspaper-style format. Why not make it a real mag and put it in color? If the editing and format improves I will return because I support ham mags, but not till then.

Good mag for the money Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have read World Radio since becoming a ham almost 10 years ago. I have been a lifetime subscriber for about 3 years now. I like the way the articles are aimed towards the everyday type of person. When I read it I don't feel like I need to go out and buy the latest and most expensive equipment on the market just so I can talk around the corner. The reviews are concise. The articles on QRP and 1010 are great. Kurt N. Sterba has excellent and pertinent data. IMHO, World Radio is the best mag of its kind at any price.

Great current news and affairs. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I was given a sample issue of this magazine and I have to say that it is one of the best periodicals I have read. The magazine is all news and suggestions that help any ham feel that they are in touch and learning. I particularly like the world community feeling. I like the perspective, operating tips and the casual honesty. Highly recommend. Am subscribing immediately.

no fluff---just stuff Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This magazine is on newsprint black & white no color, no fluff, minimal advertising, regular articles with some guest articles. I find this magazine worthwhile since it provides real information. you review say QST [which I also subscribe to} and you'll find page after page of nonsense. every so often qst provides a worthwhile article. I'm not into contests and my ego does not require my name or call in print.!!!

I do like the format World Radio uses, I also like their honest opinions even though many think it's slighted towards QST. I am a life subscriber of World Radio and bang for the buck you get a good monthly magazine!

A Good Value Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Over the last 26 years, I've enjoyed reading the Worldradio News as an adjunct to CQ or QST. I find that for the price it's hard to beat, and since it's on newsprint and not really collectable I never mind giving it away to a friend or maybe even a prospective ham.

I figure that we need all the ham magazines we can support... I've seen "Ham Radio" go away, and "73" looks like it's in it's death throes now too. $15 a year is darned cheap, and I find that there are articles in Worldradio that I don't see anywhere else.

Try their offer for a free issue, I'm willing to bet you'll like it.

Good publication Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Been reading it for years. Some content is excellent and some is not so excellent (just like ALL others). My grandmother's dying words were:
"Hams must be the cheapest people on God's good earth....why is it always about money with them and not much money at that ?"
Go forth and enjoy our hobby.....

It's cheap, but you get what you pay for. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I got a sample of this "magazine" (it'd be more appropriate to call it a "pamphlet") in the mail and I was not terribly impressed.

This is another one of those "Anti-QST" publications that is inferior to the original. Reading through the articles, I detected a bias against the ARRL, and they made several references to "that other publication in Newington" and how they (World Radio) were better.

The articles were entertaining enough but not terribly well written. One of the regular columnists even wrote "HI HI" in his article after writing something he thought was supposed to funny. Talk about an amateur mistake! It's like those people on the internet who write LOL (for Laughing Out Loud) after jokes like it makes them funnier somehow.

Anyway, if you're looking for a cheap (and I'm talking more than price here, folks) alternative to one of the mainstream magazines like QST or CQ then Radio World may fit the bill, but you get what you pay for.
