the desk and provide hours of comfortable brass- pounding for the
discerning operator.

Very smooth mid-size key Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
There has been a design change since the photo above was taken. There are no longer any adjustments on the trunnions.

However, the function is still superb.

The keying "feel" took a little getting used to, as the lower contact is cushioned. While this is different, it is not a bad thing. It is just a little softer than what I was used to. (Bunnell Triumph.)

I loved everything about the key except the dished knob. I changed this for a Hi-Mound mushroom knob. This had a threaded stud instead of a threaded insert. I removed the stud, shortened the knob and pressed in a M4 stainless insert I got from McMaster-Carr. Now I have a nicely-proportioned rounded knob, mounted with the original M4 screw.

This key is far lighter to pack in a small Pelican box with a KX3 than a larger key, such as a Begali Spark or N3ZN ZN-HK.

Hex key also included Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
To my previous review I'd like to add that an appropriate hex key is included with the Hantaste. This is required to adjust four hex screws: two lateral ones regulating the pressure on the axle at the fulcrum, one to adjust the tension of the spring, and a fourth to adjust the gap at the contact. At the bottom of the base a white and golden sticker indicates the coordinates of "Scheunemann -Morsetasten" in Germany. No serial number is provided.

The Schurr MKK (www.mtechnologies.com/schurr/mmk.jpg) - no longer in production - used to invite the sending of code in the same way that a bar of rich chocolate invites a bite... the brass and the wood finishes combined for a strong aesthetic appeal. These features have been retained by its "reincarnation", the Scheunemann Kleine Hantaste. But this is not all that has been retained: the fulcrum for the shaft of the key is at its very end, which means that when the key is used, the actual lever arm is much longer than in many larger keys. In addition, care has been taken for the contacts on the base to be mounted on an acrylic cushion, thus eliminating almost any vibration and providing a soft feed back to the finger and hand each time the key is pressed. The only apparent difference with the Schurr MKK seems to be the mechanics at the fulcrum (bearings in the MKK and adjustable screws in the Kleine Hantaste?) Only a couple of observations to explain the "4" rating: the key is provided with the cord installed but without any stereo connector. Also, no written manual is provided and none seems to exist. If the cord needed replacement the only help available seems to be here: http://www.morsex.com/schurr/schurrcable.htm. Overall a superb small straight key that is assured to outlive its operator. The Kleine Hantaste is not offered in the Scheunemann-Morsetaste firm website (http://www.scheunemann-morsetasten.de/). However, it is still available from Morse Express in the US.
