The best portable antenna I have ever used Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This, given its size and weight and the fact that it's not made to be bent and abused, is not really an HT antenna. It's more a portable antenna, you take it with you and then set it up and use it while standing still and not walking around.

Its performance with my IC705 is fantastic. SWR is low (less than 1.5:1) in both bands. The antenna does not need counterpoises, grounding, etc, and works fine unless you touch it while transmitting.

If you need a simple to deploy portable antenna for your ic705 or ft817 (or any other qrp v/u rig), or if you need a high gain antenna for your HT, to be used while standing still, go for this one. Its performance is as good as a similar size car mounted antenna.

Just be careful not to break the sma connector on your HT.

Good Fringe Antenna Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I live in a dead zone between a number of repeaters. With a quarter wave antenna I can reach one repeater 20 miles away. With the RH770 I can reach two more repeaters at 48 and 52 miles distant. As far as I know this is the highest gain ht antenna on the market.

good gain on VHF and UHF, heavy for HT, little bit fragile. Time Owned: N.A.
The antenna gets great reviews & test results over at the Yahoo group. 10dBi? on VHF !?

Company claims 3.0dBi(VHF) 5.5dBi(UHF) 20W,
which seems honest.
I have not run any SWR tests on it.

Since the antenna is a bit fragile, keep it closed while traveling. It should make a good base camp / fringe antenna for HT or for scanning.

Slap this antenna on a good ground plane and it ought to shine.

Mine came in a yellow package with Diamond lettering and a Harvest label/logo.

The Diamond RH771 might be more practical.
